Former FBI Director James Comey is facing widespread ridicule after posting a puzzling video in which he called himself a “Swiftie,” the moniker used by devoted fans of pop star Taylor Swift.

In his latest Substack entry, Comey revealed that he recently recovered from COVID-19 but is still grappling with what he described as President Donald Trump “humiliating America on the world stage.” The 64-year-old added that his spirits were lifted by Swift’s podcast debut alongside her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce.

“You see, Taylor Swift and I go way back. I went to my first concert of hers 15 years ago. I’ve been to a second and I have helped financially support the attendance of a lot of family members and others. I’m in a family’s Swiftie group chat. I know all her music, and I listen to it in my headphones when I cut the grass,” Comey, 64, said in the video, adding that his favorite tracks are “All Too Well” and “Exile.”

The former FBI director whom Trump fired during his first term went on to say that Swift’s music has been a staple in his family for years and has helped them get through much “adversity and celebrations.”

Comey said Swift’s music resonates with him by giving him strength to confront “bullies” and endure “meanness,” challenges he admitted he has often struggled with. He went on to praise California Governor Gavin Newsom before acknowledging that his opposition to President Trump sometimes leaves him feeling uneasy.

“But I gotta be honest, it also leaves me with a strange feeling at times because I don’t want us to become like Trump and his followers,” he said. “There are far more decent, honest, kind people in America than there are mean jerks. And don’t get me wrong, we have our jerks, millions of them.”

Comey then suggested that the left should emulate Taylor Swift and her music’s messages moving forward.“But I think we have to try to do that without becoming like them. Which is what makes me think about Taylor Swift. She’s made clear that she sees Donald Trump for what he is,” Comey went on.
