GOP Lawmaker Adds To Call For Censuring Adam Schiff Amid Legal Troubles

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) has joined the growing calls to censure U.S. Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) following federal allegations that he misrepresented his residency on multiple mortgage documents over the past two decades.

Luna is urging the GOP-controlled Senate to strip Schiff of his committee assignments while the Justice Department considers whether to pursue charges. Schiff currently serves on four committees, including the influential Senate Judiciary Committee.

“Why has the GOP-led Senate not censured Adam Schiff and kicked him off committees for what he did?” she wrote on X Monday. “They have the authority to do it. Stop being so low energy,” she said, tagging the Senate GOP’s main account to get its attention. “This guy is a crook. Now he’s being investigated for fraud.”

Schiff is under scrutiny from a special prosecutor appointed by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, tasked with investigating claims that he declared his Maryland residence as his primary home from 2003 to 2019. During that period, Schiff served in the U.S. House representing California — a position that requires lawmakers to maintain residency in the state.

Schiff was formally placed under investigation last month when the U.S. attorney’s office in Maryland began examining whether he broke the law by allegedly submitting falsified mortgage documents. The probe stems from a referral made in June by a federal housing agency to the U.S. attorney general’s office.

Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, along with documents indicating that Schiff — who served 12 terms in the House before winning his Senate seat in 2024 — “falsified bank documents and property records to secure more favorable loan terms, impacting payments” on a second home he purchased in Potomac, Maryland.

Pulte also alleged that Schiff, 65, simultaneously claimed a homeowner’s tax deduction on his California residence — a benefit reserved for year-round residents. A spokesperson for Schiff previously defended his living arrangements when allegations first surfaced, telling CNN in 2023, “Adam’s California and Maryland addresses have been listed as primary residences for loan purposes because they are both occupied throughout the year and to distinguish them from a vacation property.”
