Fox News Beating All Other Networks In Summer Sweeps

Fox News got some more good news in terms of ratings this week.

This summer, Fox News has dominated the ratings, posting the highest overall average daily audience according to Nielsen data. Meanwhile, Fox’s late night sensation, “Gutfeld!” starring Greg Gutfeld, has continued to outperform the traditional late-night programs on ABC, NBC, and CBS, all of which are dominated by left-wing, anti-President Trump hosts.

From Memorial Day through July 14, Fox News averaged 3.0 million primetime viewers (8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.), edging out second-place ABC, which drew an average of 2.8 million viewers over the same period.

Summer Average Daily Primetime Audience:

  • Fox News Channel: 3.0 viewers.
  • ABC: 2.8 million viewers.
  • NBC: 2.4 million viewers.
  • CBS: 2.1 million viewers.
  • TNT: 1.76 million viewers.

Fox News claimed the top spot despite facing notable disadvantages compared to the three major broadcast networks, as Forbes pointed out. ““Networks like ABC, CBS and NBC are in far more homes than Fox News, but this summer’s ratings show that’s not an obstacle to Fox’s rise to the top,” the outlet reported.

“In the same way, FNC’s The Five, the most-watched show in cable news, doesn’t even air during prime time – the hours between 8 and 11 p.m. when, traditionally, television viewership is the highest,” the outlet continued.

“So far this summer, Fox News programs like Special Report with Bret Baier, Hannity, Gutfeld!, Jesse Watters Primetime and The Five have outpaced broadcast hits like NBC’s Law and Order and Law and Order: SVU,” said the report.

FOX Corporation Executive Chair and CEO Lachlan Murdoch told a media and telecom conference earlier this year: “It’s important to note that we don’t see Fox News anymore as just a news service.” Indeed, the cable news network’s foray into late-night and other comedic offerings shows a great deal of programming diversity.

Fox News Channel’s Gutfeld! remains the most-watched late-night show on television, consistently outperforming CBS’s The Late Show for 21 consecutive months in total viewership and 13 straight months among the key 25-54 age demographic, according to Fox News.

As of July 20, Gutfeld! has averaged 3.1 million total viewers and 398,000 in the 25-54 demo for the year, compared to The Late Show, which averaged 1.9 million total viewers and 288,000 in the same age group. This comes as CBS announced last week it was canceling host Stephen Colbert’s show amid ongoing cost overruns and his staunch anti-Trump schtick.
