Republicans on Capitol Hill, under pressure from MAGA-aligned factions demanding greater transparency in the government’s Jeffrey Epstein investigation, voted Wednesday to subpoena former President Bill Clinton and former first lady Hillary Clinton for questioning.
Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA), a member of the House Oversight Committee, introduced a motion seeking committee approval to issue subpoenas to the Clintons. The goal, he said, is to determine what they knew about Epstein, his horrific abuse of underage girls, and whether he kept a so-called client list of powerful figures who participated in his crimes.
“I have a motion to subpoena the following individuals to expand the full committees investigation into Miss Maxwell – and the list reads as follows: William Jefferson Clinton, Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton, James Brian Comey, Loretta Elizabeth Lynch, Eric Hampton Holder, Jr., Merrick Brian Garland, Robert Swan Mueller III, William Pelham Barr, Jefferson Beauregard Sessions the third, and Alberto Gonzales. That’s the full list, Mr. Chairman. And that’s the motion,” Perry told committee Chair James Comer (R-KY).
The motion passed on a voice vote. Asked by Fox News if Comer plans to obtain the subpoenas, a spokesman responded, “The subpoenas will be issued in the near future.”
The ongoing controversy has created unlikely alliances between conservatives and progressives. Earlier in the day, “Squad” member Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA) filed a separate motion calling for the release of any remaining undisclosed files related to the Epstein investigation.
