House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) announced Wednesday that he has subpoenaed Ghislaine Maxwell — the convicted accomplice in Jeffrey Epstein’s underage sex trafficking ring — and scheduled her for a formal deposition.
“I have issued a subpoena to Ghislaine Maxwell for a deposition to occur at Federal Correctional Institution Tallahassee on August 11, 2025,” Comer announced in an X post, which included a copy of the subpoena. “The Department of Justice is cooperating and will help facilitate the deposition at the prison.”
Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) had previously urged Chairman Comer to call Ghislaine Maxwell to testify after reports emerged that the imprisoned British socialite was willing to speak. Comer responded by asking Burchett to introduce a formal motion, which was later approved by a voice vote.
“Since Ms. Maxwell is in federal prison, the Committee will work with the Department of Justice and Bureau of Prisons to identify a date when Committee can depose her,” a committee representative said Tuesday. That date has since been scheduled for August 11.
In addition to the upcoming congressional deposition, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche announced he had contacted Ghislaine Maxwell’s legal team and plans to meet with her “in the coming days” to “hear what she has to say.” Maxwell’s attorney later confirmed ongoing discussions with the Justice Department.
Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year sentence for aiding Jeffrey Epstein in the sexual abuse of countless underage girls over several decades, recently had her latest bid for release rejected during a hearing last week, where prosecutors opposed her motion. She has served approximately three years since her 2022 conviction.
