California Governor Gavin Newsom is facing backlash over a social media post targeting Vice President J.D. Vance’s family following their trip to Disneyland in California.
As Vice President Vance, his wife Usha, and their young children visited the iconic theme park, roughly 100 leftist protesters gathered outside to heckle the family, according to the Orange County Register. Additional demonstrations—mostly involving older women—took place in Anaheim as the family toured the area during their vacation.
“Hope you enjoy your family time here, @JDVance. The families you’re tearing apart certainly won’t,” Newsom wrote on the X platform.
The phrase “families being torn apart” appears to reference Thursday’s immigration enforcement raid in nearby Ventura County, where a large team of federal agents carried out an operation at a cannabis farm. Several minors—who had been forced to harvest marijuana—were rescued during the raid.
Among the 300 illegal aliens apprehended during the raid at Glass House Farms was an unnamed man with a history of violent and sexual crimes, including attempted child exploitation. This illegal alien was apprehended at the CA marijuana facility,” Border Patrol Commissioner Rodney Scott posted on X alongside a photo of the suspect.
“Turns out he had been sentenced to 7 yrs for kidnapping & attempted rape, w/ a prior conviction for attempted child molestation. And this felon was working at the same farm as 10 kids – one being 14 yrs old,” he added.
Newsom’s post, while celebrated by the far-left, has largely generated backlash on social media. “He’s not returning your underage illegal alien indentured servants to work on your donor’s pot farm, if that’s what you’re asking,” said conservative attorney and activist Will Chamberlain.
“You have been facilitating child trafficking for forced labor, Newscum,” added independent legal analyst Viva Frei. “You’ve got some nerve trying to shame JD Vance for being a father.” Conservative influencer Gunther Eagleman added: “You really are a piece of sht, aren’t ya?” Another wrote: “Why do you support child trafficking and child slave labor, Governor Greaseball?”
On Saturday, a small crowd gathered at the Grand Californian Hotel, which is located next to the park where Vance is believed to be staying, according to local outlet KTLA. Many protesters were seen waving Mexican flags, a common sight at anti-Trump demonstrations.
Although the visit was not political, several local Democrat leaders encouraged their followers to harass the Vance family during their vacation. “I’m offended by the visit, because so many families are being terrorized by the policies from the federal government,” Orange County Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento told KTLA.
