Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), who is considering a potential White House run in 2028, was called out for spreading a false narrative about the recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement raid on Glass House Farms. Gallego claimed that President Donald Trump’s ICE targeted families who were “picking our food” and had been doing so for years.
However, his assertions were swiftly debunked, as the farm in question cultivates marijuana, not edible produce. The individual Gallego shared on X made a similar claim, asserting that ICE is arresting “assets” rather than national security threats.
“ICE just swarmed Ventura County fields, hauling away the very farm workers who keep America’s produce aisles stocked,” left-wing political commentator Brian Allen wrote on X. “We’re arresting assets; treating the backbone of our food chain like a threat. That’s not ‘border security.’ That’s self-sabotage in uniform.”
Gallego then shared Allen’s post and video, saying, “Instead of prioritizing dangerous criminals Trump is targeting families that have been here for years picking our food. The public outcry and protests are occuring because the American public knows this is wrong.”
In his own post, Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-CA) claimed that federal agents were arresting undocumented workers who were picking strawberries.
“How many MS-13 gang members are waking up at 3 a.m. to pick strawberries? O’yeah, zero!” Gomez responded in his post. “Trump said he’d go after ‘bad hombres,’ but he’s targeting the immigrant farm workers who feed America. Either he lied — or he can’t tell the difference.”
