The ongoing feud between the Trump White House and members of the progressive “Squad” in Congress is well-documented, but critics say Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) crossed a line with her recent remarks targeting First Lady Melania Trump.
During a heated House hearing, Crockett shifted her focus from President Donald Trump to Melania, mocking her modeling career and questioning how she could have qualified for the highly selective “Einstein visa,” a move some critics called “cruel” and “unnecessary.”
Crockett leveled her criticisms during Wednesday’s House Judiciary Committee hearing, where she alternated between condemning President Trump’s immigration policies and launching personal attacks against First Lady Melania Trump. “Since we’re talking about integrity, I’m confused as to why my Republican colleagues aren’t talking about the lack of integrity when it comes to the president’s family’s visas,” she commented.
“Melania, the first lady — a model, and when I say model, I’m not talking Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford or Naomi Campbell-level — applied for and was given an EB-1 visa,” she said mockingly. Melania, originally from Slovenia, came to the United States in the 1990s to pursue a modeling career. She later obtained an EB-1 visa—commonly known as the “Einstein visa”—and became a U.S. citizen in 2006, the same year she married Donald Trump.
Crockett escalated her remarks by outlining the qualifications for the “Einstein visa” and mockingly suggesting that Melania Trump lacked the intelligence to meet the criteria. “You’re supposed to have some sort of significant achievement, like being awarded a Nobel Peace Prize or a Pulitzer, being an Olympic medalist, or having other sustained extraordinary abilities and success in sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics,” she said
“Last time I checked, the first lady had none of those accolades under her belt,” she continued, adding: “It doesn’t take an Einstein to see that the math ain’t mathin’ here.”
The online backlash against Crockett was swift, the New York Post reports, as social media users flipped the script and accused Crockett of being “jealous.”
“Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) disgracefully attacked Melania Trump on Wednesday for her modeling career and visa. Crockett said Melania wasn’t on the same level as other models and didn’t have the accolades to warrant an Einstein visa. Crockett is jealous,” one user wrote on X.
“Can Jasmine Crockett speak 5 Languages like Melania? NO! so she can just close her mouth,” another raged. One person chimed in, saying: “How dare her compare Melania to those models? Melania has a lot more class in her little finger than Jasmine Crockett has in her whole body!” Said another: “The First Lady has more class than this trash ever will.”
The Texas congresswoman’s remarks come just days after President Trump blasted her and fellow “Squad” member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for pushing Congress toward a historic third attempt to impeach him.
“After years of being left out in the cold, including suffering one of the Greatest Losses in History, the 2024 Presidential Election, the Democrats should nominate Low IQ Candidate, Jasmine Crockett, for President, and AOC+3 should be, respectively, Vice President, and three High Level Members of the Cabinet,” Trump wrote after a far-left socialist candidate, Zohran Mamdani, won the Democratic primary for mayor of New York.
