A nonprofit organization has raised serious concerns about several climate change-related executive orders issued by former President Joe Biden.
Power the Future, founded by energy expert Daniel Turner, released a report earlier this week outlining what it describes as “troubling” aspects of Biden’s executive actions. The former president’s use of autopen technology to sign numerous executive orders and pardons has drawn heightened scrutiny and prompted a formal investigation by the Department of Justice.
The new report builds on findings from a March report by the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project. That review examined “every document we could find with Biden’s signature over the course of his presidency” and concluded that all of them featured the same autopen-generated signature.
The only apparent exception was the letter announcing then-President Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race, which appeared to bear a different, possibly handwritten, signature. “Whoever controlled the autopen controlled the presidency,” the Oversight Project wrote in their announcement.
The new report from Power the Future, which examined eight executive actions that “fundamentally reshaped American energy policy,” has further fueled the growing controversy. The nonprofit stated it found “no evidence” that the former president ever publicly discussed any of the orders it reviewed.
“Not in a press conference. Not in a speech. Not even a video statement,” the group noted in its report.
Among the executive orders under scrutiny are a directive granting the federal government authority to lease public land for AI data centers powered by “green energy,” a January 2025 order that withdrew more than 625 million acres of the Outer Continental Shelf from future oil and gas leasing, and a March 2023 order that banned oil drilling in Arctic regions.
The report also found “no evidence” that Biden was aware of several 2021 executive orders that established new climate-focused offices within the federal government and directed all federal agencies to evaluate “climate-related financial risk” in their operations.
Additionally, Biden never publicly addressed the sweeping commitments made in those orders, which included pledging the entire federal government to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and requiring 100% carbon-free electricity by 2030.
“Americans deserve to know which unelected staffers or radical unnamed activists implemented sweeping change through an autopen. The Biden energy agenda destroyed livelihoods of energy workers and fueled the record-high inflation that broke the budgets of millions of Americans,” Power the Future wrote in the report.
“The question is simple, and deserves an immediate answer: what did Joe Biden know, and when did he know it?”
