President Trump has made reordering the way the world does business with the United States one of his top second-term priorities, and just over 100 days into it, he’s already making progress. In addition to trillions – that’s ‘trillions’ with a “T” – of dollars worth of new foreign investment into our country, Trump’s been using broad implementation of tariffs to spur discussions into improving trade conditions between the U.S. and the rest of the world, and that’s beginning to pay dividends.
The White House has announced that its second trade deal will be with the United Kingdom, a revelation that lifted markets into positive territory Thursday morning. Trump took a victory lap, writing on Truth Social, “This should be a very big and exciting day for the United States of America and the United Kingdom.” At this hour, Trump is scheduled to hold a press conference to release more details.
“The agreement with the United Kingdom is a full and comprehensive one that will cement the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom for many years to come. Because of our long time history and allegiance together, it is a great honor to have the United Kingdom as our FIRST announcement. Many other deals, which are in serious stages of negotiation, to follow!” he added. “The Golden Age of America is coming!”
Since April 5, the U.K. economy has been significantly impacted by a 10% reciprocal tariff imposed by the U.S. on imports. Iconic British automobile brands, such as Jaguar and Aston Martin, now face a 25% surcharge on foreign vehicles, resulting in a notable decline in Land Rover sales, as reported by Autoblog. Before that time, trade between the two nations was quite strong. Most U.K. imports faced tariffs ranging from zero to 2.5%, while higher rates applied to specific products such as steel, aluminum, and automobiles, according to Fox Business.
While Democrats have become the party of “no,” Trump and the GOP are focused on improving the lives of every single American, regardless of their current economic stature or political affiliation, because that’s what responsible leaders do: They deliver for the people. We can’t wait to see what trade deals are in the offing. Golden Age, indeed.
