The Kennedy Center set a new attendance record for a public event on March 29, drawing over 11,000 people to the “EARTH to SPACE: Arts Breaking the Sky” fireworks show, according to an exclusive report by The Daily Caller. The historic turnout comes amid criticism from liberals regarding President Donald Trump’s takeover of the facility. Critics have questioned Trump’s understanding and appreciation of the arts since he assumed control of the Kennedy Center. Despite these concerns, the impressive attendance numbers tell a different story.

By shifting its programming focus away from politically charged content, the Kennedy Center managed to captivate a broad audience with its spectacular fireworks display. The record-breaking event highlights the center’s ability to engage the public and create a unifying, culturally enriching experience—even in a politically divided environment. Roma Daravi, VP of PR for the Kennedy Center, boasted the successful turnout in a statement issued to the Daily Caller.

“It was wonderful to have so many new visitors at the Kennedy Center for Cai Guo-Qiang’s firework showcase. We look forward to their return for more wonderful programming soon. Everyone is welcome here!” Daravi said. Cai Guo-Qiang’s “Interspecies Love Letter” fireworks show not only drew a record number of patrons to the venue, but also attracted many first-time attendees.

A Kennedy Center representative reported that 76% of the fireworks show’s attendees were first-timers at the venue. The event was open to the public, with free first-come, first-served tickets available on the Kennedy Center website. Visitors enjoyed the show from the venue’s 360-degree rooftop terrace and gathered along the riverwalk to marvel at the dazzling display as fireworks illuminated the skies over the Potomac River. The first 800 guests even received a VIP treatment, with the chance to launch a personal firework via the cAITM—Cai Guo-Qiang’s custom AI model—web interface. The EARTH to SPACE festival will continue through April 20th.
