Just weeks after being let go from MSNBC following years of declining ratings, multi-millionaire former host Joy Reid described America as a racist and backward country during a talk at Baldwin and Co. bookstore. Reid was joined by Ta-Nehisi Coates, a far-left activist known for his controversial statements, including his previous remark labeling 9/11 responders as “menaces of nature” and his history of anti-white rhetoric. During their conversation, Coates reiterated his divisive views, labeling all 78 million Trump voters as “racists” and “bigots.”
“Look, man, I’m old enough to remember 2020, or 2016, when Trump won the first time. And every major paper in this world had a reason to tell us why white folks, quote unquote working-class white folks, supported this racism, this bigotry, and this sexist for reasons that were not racism, sexism, or bigotry. A lot of resources were expended,” the pseudo-intellectual ranted.
“‘Economic anxiety. Economic anxiety.’ Against data, a lot of resources. I mean, humanizing almost to the point of infantilizing,” he continued in a mocking tone before, shockingly and falsely, concluding that America does not afford the same opportunity to black people. “And then I watch these people being bombed, and it’s like, you know, excuse my language, f**k y’all,” he continued, drawing a round of applause from the crowd.
Continuing the theme of the conversation, Reid shared that her mother immigrated to the U.S. from Guyana and quickly recognized the country as a racist nation. Despite this realization about the U.S. being an “evil” place, she chose to stay. “And as somebody who’s, you know, my parents, my father was from the Congo and my mother was from Guyana and so they were the immigrants who came here on purpose and they got the rude awakening,” Reid said. “My mother got the rude awakening like, ‘oh, it’s racist here.’ That’s weird.” Continuing, Reid claimed, “She was like, this is the land of opportunity but not for me,” before Coates mocked white people who claim they’re not racist.
Reid, who managed to attend and graduate from Ivy League Harvard despite America’s allegedly ‘overt racism,’ appears to be continuing with her race-baiting, anti-Trump theme from her MSNBC program after she was fired by the network earlier this year. For Reid, the cancellation came as her show had struggled to attract more than 1 million viewers over the last several months. The show’s overall ratings have declined by 28 percent when compared with last February.
