President Donald Trump on Saturday announced on social media, “The Invasion of our Country is OVER,” following a record-setting low in his first full month in office, with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) apprehending only 8,326 illegal immigrants. In a post on Truth Social, Trump relayed the apprehensions of illegal immigrants by Border Patrol at the southern border, all of whom were “quickly ejected from our Nation or, when necessary, prosecuted for crimes against the United States of America.”
In its first full month, the Trump administration’s apprehension figures show a 96% decrease compared to the highs of the Biden administration in December 2023, when CBP recorded 301,981 encounters at the southern border. “This means that very few people came – The Invasion of our Country is OVER,” Trump wrote in the post. “In comparison, under Joe Biden, there were 300,000 Illegals crossing in one month, and virtually ALL of them were released into our Country. Thanks to the Trump Administration Policies, the Border is CLOSED to all Illegal Immigrants.”
During fiscal year 2024, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported 271,484 removals, while the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recorded approximately 700,000 removals and returns, the highest since 2010.
Under the Biden administration, there were days when apprehensions nearly reached 10,000 illegal immigrants, a figure that exceeded the monthly total of the new administration. The Trump administration’s achievements in border control have resulted entirely from executive actions and a stricter communication approach, as no new border legislation was enacted. “Anyone who tries to illegally enter the U.S.A. will face significant criminal penalties and immediate deportation,” the president wrote.
Following a campaign heavily focused on border security and curbing illegal immigration, Trump issued executive orders declaring a national emergency at the border and mobilizing the U.S. military to address the surge. Additionally, he issued orders terminating birthright citizenship, halting refugee admissions, discontinuing the use of an app for admitting migrants through humanitarian parole at the southern border, and restarting the construction of the border wall.
The Pentagon responded by deploying troops to the southern border and utilizing Guantánamo Bay to accommodate migrants. The DHS overturned ICE restrictions established under the Biden administration, enabling law enforcement to enter “sensitive” locations, perform expedited removals, and reassess the parole status of migrants admitted on parole.
DHS data reported by Fox News Digital indicates that there were 11,791 interior ICE arrests from January 20 to February 8, a 137% increase from the 4,969 arrests made during the same period in 2024. Additionally, several high-profile raids in “sanctuary” cities resulted in over a thousand daily arrests, including apprehensions of violent criminals and gang members.
