Dem Lawmaker Fails Miserably When Trying To Blame Trump For Biden’s Jobs Report

Democrat Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) may want to double-check her facts before posting her next tweet. Crockett recently took to social media to criticize former President Donald Trump, referencing a Forbes article about weaker-than-expected job growth in January. In her post, she tried to be humorous, quipping, “So it turns out when you DON’T go woke, you go broke. Trump’s New DEI? Dying Economy and Inflation. It’s only two weeks in and Trump is Making America Broke Again.”

Crockett’s post implies that Trump’s early actions—especially his efforts to dismantle DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives in federal agencies and the private sector, a move widely supported by Americans—are directly contributing to economic downturns. This claim fits into a broader Democratic narrative that DEI programs drive economic growth and workplace productivity. However, the timing of the jobs report sharply undermines Crockett’s credibility, making her statement appear politically motivated rather than fact-based.

The Forbes article Crockett cites discusses the January jobs report, which shows weaker-than-expected employment growth and the slowest start to a year since 2016. While the article was published on February 7, 2025, the data was gathered in January—weeks before Trump was inaugurated on January 20, 2025. It seems the Texas Democrat obviously didn’t realize that the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) compiles jobs reports based on surveys conducted during the first half of each month.

As a result, the January report reflects employment trends and economic conditions under the previous administration’s policies—specifically, President Joe Biden’s policies. This means that any slowdown in hiring or economic stagnation noted in the report cannot be attributed to Trump’s policies, as they hadn’t yet taken effect. If anything, this jobs report highlights the shortcomings of Biden’s economic policies rather than Trump’s.

Unsurprisingly, Trump’s supporters didn’t let this accusation slide. The Trump War Room account fired back with a scathing tweet: “So it turns out that Jasmine Crockett is DUMBER than we had originally thought. This jobs report is based solely on data from before President Trump’s inauguration.”
