As President Donald Trump and Republicans, on a mandate from a majority of the American people following the November elections, work to erase “wokeness” from government and corporate entities embraced by the hapless Biden-Harris regime, some Democrats still haven’t gotten the message they are in the minority when it comes to the issue. Two Pennsylvania Democrats are advocating for the removal of biological sex from birth certificates to allow individuals to more easily align their documents with their “gender identity” and avoid “bureaucratic roadblocks.”
State Representatives Benjamin Sanchez and Joe Webster have introduced a bill to get rid of the biological sex designation on birth certificates, arguing that this change would “eliminate yet another form of discrimination people endure when there is an error in that category.” It should not have to be said that there are only two human sexes — male and female, as Trump reminded everyone during his inauguration speech — and that infants have no concept of ‘gender confusion’ as they simply want to be fed and nurtured so they can grow.
“As the times change, so does the need to assess our antiquated practices and procedures. Precedent already exists for amending what is required on birth certificate documents. For example, birth certificates used to include the race of an individual’s parents, which had historically been used as a part of systemic discrimination,” the lawmakers said in a House co-sponsorship memorandum posted on January 24.
“As we have seen, removing race from birth certificate applications has had no impact on the document’s original intention, which is to prove the birth itself and the place in which the child was born. By removing sex from birth certificates, we eliminate yet another form of discrimination people endure when there is an error in that category,” they added in a state that Trump handily won.
The Democrats stated that their bill is based on a recommendation from the left-leaning American Medical Association (AMA), an organization that has embraced “gender identity,” the belief that individuals can identify as a different sex than their biological one. Democrats hold a narrow majority in the Pennsylvania House and governorship, while Republicans control the state Senate.
In 2021, the AMA drafted a resolution advocating for the removal of “male” and “female” designations from birth certificates, arguing that documenting proof of birth is the only essential information. The resolution suggested that sex should instead be recorded on live birth certificates for statistical purposes. However, it stated that including sex on birth certificates could create obstacles for individuals who later choose to live as a gender different from their biological sex.
The AMA has supported the use of hormone therapies and gender-affirming surgeries for minors who identify as transgender. In 2022, the organization, along with other left-leaning medical groups, urged the Biden Department of Justice to investigate and prosecute individuals who opposed their approaches to treating gender dysphoria in children.
