As President Donald Trump completes his first week back in office, his popularity among Americans is reaching new heights, signaling that his aggressive push to implement conservative reforms is resonating with many voters. Trump has touted his electoral mandate, winning 306 electoral votes and becoming the first Republican in 20 years to secure the popular vote. Following the election, a majority of voters expressed approval of his handling of the transition and his nominations for key cabinet positions.
Now, the first poll conducted since he assumed office shows continued enthusiasm for Trump. A survey by Atlas Intel reveals that 50.1% of Americans approve of his performance, compared to 49.7% who disapprove. Only 0.3% of respondents expressed no opinion, highlighting the deeply polarized sentiment surrounding his second term. The survey also found that Trump’s approval is nearly 6.5 points higher than former President Joe Biden’s last approval rating.
Trump is also scoring better approval ratings for most of the key issues upon which he campaigned, according to the same poll. That includes his handling of illegal immigration, the U.S. economy, competition with China, and job growth. He’s underwater now regarding the ongoing war in Ukraine after saying he would solve it before taking office; environmental protection; and healthcare.
Trump wasted no time implementing the MAGA agenda, signing more than 100 executive orders on his first day in office to overhaul various aspects of the federal government. According to a poll of over 1,800 U.S. adults, three actions stand out as political victories for Trump: requiring federal workers to return to the office (52% approval), mandating a policy recognizing only two genders (51% approval), and reclassifying federal employees to make layoffs easier (49% approval).
One executive order that Trump may struggle with politically includes a lack of support for eliminating birthright citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants: Just 38% of voters support ending the 14th Amendment protection compared to 43% who oppose doing so.
By signing such a large number of executive orders within his first 24 hours in office, President Trump has left his political opponents reeling, limiting their ability to rally around any specific order to organize or fundraise against it. Over 10 of these orders address illegal immigration, a key issue for his administration. With 51% of poll respondents expressing support for mass deportations, Trump appears to have strong public backing on this front.
