President Donald Trump has once again fulfilled another campaign promise just days into his new term mandating the release of all government files on the assassination of John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert F. Kennedy Sr., and civil rights icon Martin Luther King. “Everything will be revealed,” Trump told reporters as he signed the order in the Oval Office of the White House on Thursday.
During his first administration, Trump had pledged to release all files related to John F. Kennedy, but a portion of the material remains classified more than six decades after Kennedy’s assassination on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. After appeals from the CIA and FBI, Trump blocked the release of hundreds of records. At the time, Trump stated that the potential harm to U.S. national security, law enforcement, or foreign relations was “of such gravity that it outweighs the public interest in immediate disclosure.”
Trump’s promise to release remaining documents related to Martin Luther King Jr. and former U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy raises questions about how the president-elect will accelerate the release process. Under the Martin Luther King Jr. Records Collection Act, the remaining files pertaining to King are not due for release until 2027, Fox News reported. Watch Trump sign the order in the video below.
