Legendary sports commentator Stephen A. Smith has voiced regret over voting for Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. Known for his outspoken political views, the ESPN host was highly critical of the Democratic Party in the weeks leading up to Election Day. Smith condemned the Biden administration’s Department of Justice for its handling of prosecutions against political rivals and criticized Harris for relying on high-profile celebrities to inflate the apparent turnout at her campaign rallies.
During a recent appearance on Fox News’ “Life, Liberty & Levin,” Smith was hypothetically asked by host Mark Levin if he would consider changing his support to President-elect Trump. “Quite possibly. I’m not going to sit up there and dismiss that anymore. I think we’re beyond that. He would have to prove a lot, Mark. And I’m not talking about policy now,” the longtime “First Take” host answered.
“What concerned me about Donald Trump and the reason I voted against him and voted for Kamala Harris was because I felt that he would be divisive, that he would create chaos because he demands such a level of loyalty and fealty to him. And that would take priority over governing our nation. That was my concern. And so I’m looking for both sides to work across the aisle from one another,” he added, noting as well that he agrees with several of Trump’s positions on the economy and border security.
While admitted that he did ultimately vote Democrat in the last election, the ESPN host stated that he is beginning to wish he didn’t. “I voted Democrat, and I got to tell you something right now. I don’t like the fact that I did. I don’t like what I’m seeing,” Smith said. He added that he is frustrated with the Democratic Party’s focus on lecturing voters about opposing Trump’s rhetoric rather than promoting policies and candidates that voters can actively support.
“Nobody’s above the law. But then you go out and you’re pardoning your son, and you try to blame everybody else for it. I don’t want to hear about defund the police. I don’t want to hear about, you know, that there should be open borders. I don’t want to hear this stuff. And I don’t think most of the American people want to hear that,” he added.
