Former President Bill Clinton stated that he is open to discussing the possibility of a preemptive pardon for his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, with President Joe Biden, leaving more than a few Americans to ask why, if she’s so innocent of any wrongdoing, she’d even need a pardon to begin with. Clinton made the remarks during an appearance on The View on Wednesday, where he addressed President-elect Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration and concerns about Trump targeting political opponents during his second term, though the incoming 47th commander-in-chief has repeatedly said he’s not interested in ‘retribution.’
“Do you think it would be wise of President Biden to preemptively pardon any potential targets? What about your wife, Hillary Clinton?” host Sunny Hostin asked, highlighted by Mediaite. The former president responded: “I think if President Biden wanted to talk to me about that, I will talk to him about it, but I don’t think I should be giving public advice on the pardon power. It’s a very personal thing, but … I hope [Trump] won’t do that.”
President Biden has reportedly held discussions with his senior team about potentially using his pardon power to shield Trump’s critics, who may face targeting under the next administration. Hillary Clinton, who lost the 2016 election to Trump, has remained a focal point of his criticism for years. Bill Clinton, stated that Trump and his allies continue to fixate on her because of that election, despite his claim that she hasn’t done nothing wrong, The Hill reported.
“They’ve got a problem with her because first, she didn’t do anything wrong. Second, she followed the rules exactly as they were written. Third … remember how the emails were such a big issue in 2016? Trump’s State Department found that Hillary sent and received exactly zero classified emails on her personal device. It was a made-up phone story,” he said.
That’s false, actually. Trump’s administration found that, indeed, not only did Hillary Clinton send and receive classified emails — on a secret server, no less that then-President Obama knew about because he sent her emails on that server — but that she also deleted more than 30,000 emails and destroyed her devices in defiance of a congressional subpoena. Even the highly compromised former FBI Directory James Comey admitted that. And never mind that she personally approved the creation of the false “Trump-Russia collusion” scam that consumed much of Trump’s first term and tens of millions of taxpayer dollars.
On social media, people had much to say about Bill’s pursuit of a preemptive pardon for Hillary.
