Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene revealed Monday that her local police department intercepted a bomb threat sent to her via email, assuring the public that she was safe. The Georgia Republican is among at least nine lawmakers who have recently faced threats, the majority targeting Democrats. On Thanksgiving, seven Democratic lawmakers received threats, and Massachusetts Democratic Rep. Lori Trahan was the target of a bomb threat on Saturday, according to NBC News.
In a press release, Greene’s office confirmed the threat, stating it was traced to a Russian IP address and appeared to express support for Palestine. The email claimed a pipe bomb had been placed in the congresswoman’s mailbox. “The Rome Police Department’s Assistant Chief of Police received an email containing a bomb threat directed towards me,” Greene wrote in a post on X. “I’m so grateful to every member of the Rome Police Department for your swift and professional response in ensuring my safety.”

Rome Police Department spokesperson Kelly Madden told NBC News that a bomb squad was dispatched to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s home but found no evidence of a bomb. The case has since been handed over to the FBI for further investigation. Greene later reported that a woman tragically lost her life in a car accident involving a member of the Rome Police bomb squad who was responding to the threat. “These violent political threats have fatal consequences,” Greene wrote on X. “It’s an undue strain on our law enforcement who must treat them seriously. The officer was responding to protect my life. And now, a woman has lost her life because of this despicable act.”
In 2022, Greene reported her sixth “swatting” attack on her home in recent weeks. That’s when someone calls the police and falsely claims that there is some sort of extreme criminal activity going on there, such as a shooting, a hostage situation, and the like. While occasionally they are intended as pranks, even though very dangerous, in their most evil form, they are intended to bring a police SWAT team to the scene with the likelihood of an armed confrontation.
The National Review said the most recent incident, this week, sent police officers to her home after they got “a prank call claiming there was an emergency” there. Her team confirmed it as the sixth such episode, but her communications director provide no further comment at the time. “The police department in Rome, Ga. said they are referring all inquiries regarding Greene to the FBI. The FBI did not immediately respond to request for comment,” the report explained. Greene, on social media, said, “I was swatted for the 6th time last night. Swatting is a very serious crime. The caller wants to have their victim murdered by police. But it is also a giant abuse of police resources and time, which is another reason it is a serious crime. God bless my local police.”
