As Donald Trump prepares for his second term after winning the 2024 presidential election, his legal team is actively pushing back against ongoing investigations in New York. Trump’s attorney, Mike Davis, issued a strong warning to New York Attorney General Letitia James, describing her inquiries into Trump’s business dealings as a “conspiracy against rights” and pledging to take legal action. Davis’s remarks, made on conservative commentator Benny Johnson’s show, represent a notable escalation in the rhetoric between Trump’s team and James’s office.
“Let me just say this to Big Tish James, the New York Attorney General. I dare you to continue your law-fare against President Trump!” Davis said. “Listen here, sweetheart, we’re not messing around this time, and we will put your fat a** in prison for conspiracy against rights. I promise you that.” His warning comes after James essentially issued a threat of her own this week after Trump won, claiming that his victory would not stop her from “protecting New Yorkers” and “pursuing justice.”

James delivered an unhinged press conference on Wednesday in which she appeared to threaten Trump after his historic victory on Tuesday night. “So here we are. We’ve studied their platforms. We’ve identified certain possibilities, fact patterns. We’ve created contingency plans. So no matter what the next administration throws at us, we’re ready,” a visibly shaken James told reporters.
“We’re ready to respond to any attempts to cut or eliminate any funding to the great state of New York as the governor outlined. So despite what has happened on the national stage, we will continue to stand tall in the face of injustice, revenge, or retribution, protect and our most vulnerable and marginalized amongst us. Because it is my sworn duty and responsibility to lead that fight, working with the governor of this great state, Kathy Hochul,” she continued. She continued, “This is not the time to be fearful, New York, but faithful and steadfast, knowing that I as the Attorney General along with my entire team, we are guardians of the law. And we are prepared, my friends, to fight back. Thank you.”
James campaigned on the promise of prosecuting and “convicting” Trump, ultimately achieving this through a highly controversial civil fraud case. The former president was initially fined $100 million after a Democratic judge accused him of inflating the value of his Mar-a-Lago estate, despite the fact that loans on the property were repaid in full, with interest. The case has faced widespread criticism from legal and real estate experts and is expected to be dismissed on appeal.
