One of the final polls of the election season shows former President Donald Trump gaining a significant lead over Vice President Kamala Harris just five days before most Americans head to the polls. The Daily Mail’s last poll of the season indicates that the former president has a greater chance than ever of winning the election. Pollsters at J.L. Partners surveyed over 1,000 likely voters and found Trump trending toward a “shock win” in the popular vote, leading Harris by 3 points, 49%-46%.
While this result falls within the poll’s 3.1% margin of error, it diverges from earlier results that indicated a much closer race; just a month ago, a similar poll showed Harris with a 1-point lead. If these numbers hold, Trump could become the first Republican candidate since former President George W. Bush to win the national popular vote, a distinction typically claimed by the Democratic nominee, the outlet noted.
Both campaigns are ramping up their ground efforts in key states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Nevada, all of which rely on a small number of undecided or disaffected voters who could sway the outcome. In Michigan, Trump has delegated much of his mobilization efforts to a super PAC funded primarily by billionaire supporter Elon Musk. Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania, Harris’s staff have expressed concerns about a disorganized turnout effort in Philadelphia. Poll after poll indicates that any semblance of a honeymoon period for Harris is now over.
Harris entered the race in late July following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal, leading to a perception of her being “crowned” by the Democratic Party, which Trump has criticized as “undemocratic.” For several weeks, Harris led in the polls, causing concern among observers. After a month, the Trump campaign settled on a strategy that targets Harris as unintelligent, deceitful, and nonsensical during her speeches.
J.L. Partners co-founder James Johnson said he sees signs that Trump is resonating with voters after saddling Harris with many of the Biden-Harris regime’s failed policies in the latest numbers. “The movement under the surface suggests Trump is having a better closing moment in driving up enthusiasm than Harris is, and undecideds and third-party candidate supporters have also broken for Trump in the last month,” he said. “He has also seen improvement among voters of every race, and leads in all age groups apart from 18–29-year-olds.”
Finance expert and famed investor Kevin O’Leary of “Shark Tank” sounded the alarm on Vice President Kamala Harris’ dark rhetoric in the final days of her campaign before the Nov. 5 election and questioned why there is so little information available about some of her economic policies, a situation he described as “nuts.”
“I don’t care what she eats for breakfast. I’m still trying to figure out why she wants to raise taxes at 28%, why she wants to go after unrealized capital gains. What about the $25,000 inflation idea for houses? That’s nuts,” O’Leary told Fox News host Jesse Watters. “All of this policy stuff got lost in this crazy narrative, this circus going on right now. I’m telling you, as an investor, I’m getting freaked out here because there’s no information anymore. It’s just this crazy rhetoric going in the last days.
“I would think she should do the Rogan deal and start talking about what she really means. Price gouging on grocery stores at 3.5% margin? I mean, 88 percent of jobs in America come from companies, not the government. Am I the only guy that cares about this? This is nuts. It’s completely nuts. I’m just throwing my hand up saying she’s got six or seven days left. Please tell me what you want to do because I have no idea. I have no idea what you’re doing. No idea,” he continued.
