Actor and singer Zachary Levi sent a message to “closeted” conservatives in Hollywood Monday that it is “now or never” for them to publicly express their true political views and support for Republican nominee Donald Trump. “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg said during an Oct. 1 segment that Levi’s previous claim that Hollywood is a “very liberal town” is “B.S.,” naming actors Jon Voight and Dennis Quaid as examples of “working Republicans in the industry.”
Levi, in response to Goldberg, countered in an Instagram story that “closeted Trump voters” in Hollywood should not allow their fears of “ramifications” hold them back from supporting Trump since the industry “will not exist very soon.” He noted further: “There’s plenty, and they’ve sent me lots of messages, plenty of people in my industry, in Hollywood, that are terrified to publicly say that they would vote for Donald Trump or be conservative in any way.
“That’s why you don’t see them. That’s why they’re not very prevalent or prominent because they know that there’s ramifications for this kind of shit. But like I said, y’all, our industry gonna be fuckin’ gonzo, it already is. We’re getting eroded, the pandemic and the strikes and all of these things, they’ve already eroded so much. So, anyway, my cry to all of you out there, you closeted conservatives, closeted Trump voters, it’s now or never,” he said.
“Do whatever you feel like you need to do. If you need to come out publicly and say it, if you still can’t, then don’t. I would never pressure you to do that. But know that, if what you’re afraid of is somehow the backlash of an industry that’s not going to exist very soon, then don’t let that hold you back,” Levi continued. The “Shazam!” actor remarked that Hollywood probably had a more politically balanced environment in the past, but today, a star must be “at a certain level in [their] career” to openly express any conservative views.
“To Whoopi’s point, back in the day there may have been more of a balance,” Levi said. “And there have always been more conservative-leaning stars that have been able to say those things. But you really have to be at a certain level of your career in order to get away with it, number one. But number two, that was also back then. And I think naming just Jon Voight and Dennis Quaid, and really could only name Jon Voight, Whoopi, someone else had to help you with Dennis Quaid, of the thousands of actors in Hollywood, that you could only name two, I think actually speaks to that.”
The entertainment industry was taken aback last month when Levi endorsed Trump during a weekend rally in Dearborn, Michigan. Joining him were Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and former Democratic congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, both of whom have contributed to expanding the MAGA coalition as part of their “Reclaim America” tour. The inclusion of Levi, best known for his roles in blockbuster films like Disney’s “Tangled” and Warner Bros./DC’s “Shazam!”, indicates that a notable undercurrent of celebrity support for Trump is beginning to emerge.
“I stand with Bobby and I stand with everyone else who is standing with President Trump,” Levi said in a viral clip from the event circulating on X. “My parents were Kennedy Democrats that then turned into Reagan Republicans. And they taught me to have a healthy level of distrust for the government and a healthy level of distrust for industry that runs amok.”
“And for a long time, I was, like man, I really want to find a politician who represents all of the things that I want and I want to see in a presidential candidate. We live in a country that has been hijacked by a lot of people who want to take this place way off the cliff. And we’re here to stop that, right? We’re here to make sure that we’re going to take back this country. We are going to make it great again,” he continued.
“We are going to make it healthy again. And so I stand with Bobby, and I stand with Tulsi, and I stand with everyone standing with President Trump because I do believe that of the two choices we have, President Trump is the man that can get us there, and he’s going to get us there because he’s going to have the backing and the support and the wisdom and the knowledge and the fight that exists in Robert Kennedy, Jr.,” Levi added.
