Former President Donald Trump took a brief break from campaigning on Sunday to work a shift at a McDonald’s in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Last week, Trump announced that he would be “working the fry cooker” at a Pennsylvania “Golden Arches” location during his busy visit to the key swing state. Vice President Kamala Harris has claimed that she worked at McDonald’s while attending college, a statement Trump has challenged.
“We don’t want to hear fake promises, even something like she worked very long and hard hours over french fries at McDonalds,” Trump said during a late September rally in North Carolina. “She never worked at McDonald’s. It’s a fake story.” On Saturday, Trump fulfilled his promise by visiting a McDonald’s in Feasterville, Pennsylvania. Thousands of people lined up outside the restaurant ahead of the former president’s arrival. After introducing himself to the staff, he traded in his coat for a McDonald’s apron.
Once his shift began, an employee guided the former president to the kitchen, where he explained the process of making the fast-food chain’s signature French fries. Trump was seen holding a basket of fries and carefully dipping them into the fry cooker, following the employee’s instructions throughout. “I’m gonna give them extra salt,” the former president joked. After cooking several orders of fries, Trump transitioned to the serving part of his shift and proceeded to pack a large serving of fries into a container. “I’m gonna do a really big one,” the Republican nominee announced.

The former president also spent some time working the drive-thru. “Do you believe this? Look at this guy, he’s a MAGA guy,” Trump remarked before serving up his first order. “This is not a normal situation,” he added before shaking hands with the customers and complimenting the driver on a “beautiful family.” The next customer was a Trump supporter as well, saying “45 and 47” before shaking the former president’s hand. Another customer thanked him for “taking a bullet for us.”

“Love him or hate him, I just feel it’s really cool to see this moment in history,” Caitlin Hanlon, 33, a hairdresser from Feasterville, told a New York Post reporter outside the restaurant. “It’s a really cool moment, but I obviously support him.” Harris has frequently asserted that she worked at a McDonald’s while pursuing her undergraduate degree in the 1980s. She has sought to contrast her “middle-class” background with Trump’s billionaire persona in various campaign ads and events, although Trump has consistently pointed out that she has not provided any evidence to support her claim.
