Fox News host Bret Baier disclosed that Vice President Kamala Harris arrived late and ultimately cut her highly anticipated interview with the network short due to behind-the-scenes protests from her staffers. Baier was joined by several Fox News personalities, including former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino, to discuss the much-anticipated interview shortly after it aired on Wednesday evening. The Fox News host noted that many of Harris’s staffers seemed to be panicking behind the scenes, which ultimately led to an abrupt conclusion to the discussion.
“Dana, you’ve been on the other side. You’ve been on the ‘wrapper’ as a press secretary interviewing a president,” he said, referring to the act of abruptly wrapping up an interview. Baier then noted that several Harris staffers were very active behind the scenes and aggressively cut the interview short. “I’m talking like four people waving their hands,” Baier reported. The moment Harris’ staffers pushed to end the interview early came at the very end of the segment. “Madam Vice President, they’re giving me the hard wrap,” Baier told Harris before thanking her for her time.
Baier further explained that the Harris campaign tried to implement several last-minute changes to the interview, which is being widely regarded as a disaster. “You know when the kicker in football, uh, they call a timeout right before he’s going to take the field goal uh… they’re icing the kicker,” he explained. The Fox News veteran went on to note that the interview was supposed to start at 5 p.m., but Harris arrived 15 minutes late at 5:15. This caused major disruptions for the network and nearly delayed the interview’s scheduled 6 p.m. airing, which had been promised to viewers. “So that’s how it started. And I could tell when we started talking that she was going to be tough to, to you know, redirect without me trying to interrupt,” Baier further explained.
WATCH:
At one point during the discussion, Baier asked Harris how she could campaign on providing “a new way forward” while being part of the current administration. He also referenced a recent Marquette University poll indicating that 70 percent of Americans believe the country is headed in the wrong direction. “More than 70 percent of people tell the country is on the wrong track. They say the country is on the wrong track. If it’s on the wrong track, that track follows three and a half years of you being vice president and President Biden being president. That is what they’re saying,” Baier said.” Why are they saying that? If you’re turning the page, you’ve been in office for three-and-a-half years.”
Harris refused to directly answer that question — and most others — and instead tried to pin the blame on former President Donald Trump, saying he “has been running for office” for years before Baier reminded her that she is the incumbent. At that point, Harris issued a bizarre reply, saying “You and I both know what I’m talking about. You and I both know what I’m talking about.” But Baier responded: “I actually don’t. What are you talking about?” But the vice president once again failed to provide a coherent response and began to talk about Republican policies “over the last decade.”
