Major changes to America’s electoral institutions could be on the horizon if Minnesota Governor Tim Walz secures the vice presidency. According to reports, these plans were revealed at a recent high-dollar Democratic fundraiser, where the Harris running mate expressed his belief that the Electoral College “needs to go” by the next presidential election cycle, a statement that appears to indicate he believes he and Vice President Harris will lose the Electoral College to former President Donald Trump.
Walz’s shocking statement emerged during a fundraiser at the home of California Governor Gavin Newsom, where a receptive Sacramento audience listened as the Midwestern governor elaborated on his plans to fundamentally transform America if elected. Since joining Harris’s ticket in August, Walz has made a series of commitments that the far left hopes will come to fruition next year.
Under Walz’s proposals, the Supreme Court—a primary target for Democrats this election cycle—would be expanded or “packed” with additional members chosen by the next president, likely Harris. Since the end of Roe in 2022, calls to increase the number of justices on the nine-member court have intensified, prompting introspection among progressives who fear the conservative majority is just beginning to exert its influence. President Joe Biden has also suggested legislation to implement an ethics code for justices, establish a mandatory retirement age instead of lifetime appointments, and create a rotating series of nominations to ensure that each president has the opportunity to leave their mark on the court.
Walz has also committed to pushing for statehood for Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., two very Democratic enclaves that currently hold only observational status in Congress. Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk suggested that Walz would attempt to “shred” free speech protections and implement a “mandatory” gun confiscation program, although he did not provide any examples. Kirk further claimed that Walz as vice president would “eliminate” the benefits of citizenship, referencing the recent increase in citizenship proceedings for asylum seekers and instances of noncitizens voting in Arizona’s elections.
BREAKING: Tim Walz calls for eliminating the Electoral College while fundraising at Gavin Newsom’s Sacramento private residence.
“I think all of us know the electoral college needs to go.”
Add it to the list:
– Packing the Supreme Court
– Adding Puerto Rico and DC as states

Finally, eliminating the U.S. Senate’s filibuster entirely would be a key priority if Democrats secure the White House and majorities in both the Senate and the House. Democrats have pledged to bypass the filibuster for the first time on legislative priorities, aiming to codify abortion protections into law. This move is reminiscent of former Democratic leader Harry Reid’s controversial decision to eliminate the filibuster for federal judicial nominations. This decision was later leveraged by Republican leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), allowing former President Donald Trump to nominate and confirm three U.S. Supreme Court justices with fewer than 60 votes.
