Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) has disclosed claims that the Biden-Harris administration may have pressured the Secret Service to restrict former President Donald Trump’s campaign events. A whistleblower has alleged that the Trump campaign was compelled to cancel a rally in Wisconsin due to being denied essential security resources, raising questions about possible disparities in Secret Service protection for political candidates.
On Tuesday, the Missouri Republican took to social media to share a letter he wrote to Ronald L. Rowe Jr., Acting Director of the U.S. Secret Service. In the letter, Hawley highlighted whistleblower claims that challenge recent assurances from Rowe, who had stated that Trump was receiving the same level of protection as President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
“At your recent press conference on September 20, you stated that former President Trump is receiving ‘the highest level of Secret Service protection’ and ‘he’s getting everything’ that ‘the current president has with respect to Secret Service assets,’” Hawley, who served as Missouri’s attorney general prior to being elected to the U.S. Senate, wrote. Yet, despite this assurance, Secret Service officers reportedly told the Trump campaign they could not secure a rally in Wisconsin due to insufficient assets.
Hawley noted that just days before the Trump rally was canceled, Vice President Harris successfully held an event in Madison, Wisconsin, with full Secret Service protection. The discrepancy has sparked concern among critics of the Biden-Harris administration, who suspect potential political interference, and it has led Hawley to demand answers from Rowe, asking if the Secret Service has ever refused to secure campaign events for Biden or Harris, as they allegedly did for Trump. “Failure to provide protection for a major public event is highly unusual,” Hawley noted, “and a sitting president would never be denied resources in this way.”

The allegations arise at a crucial moment, as Wisconsin is a key battleground state in the upcoming election. Trump’s supporters are questioning whether the former president is being unfairly targeted and whether this might be part of a broader effort by the Biden-Harris administration to undermine his campaign. With political tensions escalating and the 2024 election rapidly approaching, this revelation could have a significant impact, particularly in swing states like Wisconsin.
“A whistleblower with direct knowledge of the Trump campaign and the Secret Service and their interactions tell us that the Secret Service recently told the Trump campaign they could not secure a rally for Donald Trump in the state of Wisconsin,” Hawley told Fox News’ Jesse Waters this week. “Now this is interesting because it directly contradicts what the Secret Service Director Rowe said last week.”
“Kamala Harris just held a rally in Madison, Wisconsin, and I am told by a whistleblower with direct knowledge of the situation that the Secret Service says that Trump should not and could not have a rally in Wisconsin because the Secret Service could not protect him and adequately staff it,” he added.
