A Secret Service whistleblower has revealed alarming security lapses at Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course, where a would-be assassin set up a sniper’s nest approximately 300 yards from the former president. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) disclosed in a letter to Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe that the whistleblower came forward with serious allegations related to the September 15 assassination plot.
“A whistleblower with direct knowledge of Secret Service protection of former President Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach — an individual who has in fact protected President Trump at that very location — alleges that there are ‘known vulnerabilities’ in the fence line surrounding the course: places that offer a clear line of sight to the former president and others playing at the course,” Hawley wrote.
“As a result, the whistleblower alleges it has been Secret Service protocol to ‘post up’ agents at these vulnerable spots when Trump visits the course. That apparently did not happen on September 15,” the letter continued. “Instead, the gunman was permitted to remain along or near the fence line for some 12 hours.” If the whistleblower’s claims are substantiated, it would indicate that the suspected gunman, Ryan Wesley Routh, was outside the golf course for 12 hours, even though Trump’s golf outing was not listed on his public schedule.
Hawley also highlighted that it is unclear whether Secret Service agents conducted a sweep of the perimeter or if drones were employed to monitor the fence line. “The reality is that the would-be assassin should never have been able to linger around the course for that long undetected,” Hawley wrote. The letter concluded with several questions regarding the whistleblower’s allegations and sought further clarification on the agency’s response and security setup on September 15.
Following this latest assassination attempt against Trump just over 60 days after a bullet narrowly missed his head on July 13, Secret Service veteran and prominent political commentator Dan Bongino suggested the presence of a “mole” within the Secret Service or Department of Homeland Security. During his Monday program, Bongino raised the chilling possibility of a plant within the Secret Service or the wider Department of Homeland Security, under which the Secret Service falls. “I have to ask you all a really troubling question now that I promised you 10 years ago I would have called myself nuts for asking this,” Bongino said before a long pause. “Is there a mole inside the DHS or Secret Service?”
He also shared that several documented schemes have involved foreign nationals or governments attempting to infiltrate and undermine federal agencies. For example, he recounted a recent story involving two individuals who were convicted of impersonating federal agents as part of a sophisticated plot that deceived the protective agency.
“Folks, what happened yesterday in Secret Service jargon, the movement to the golf, the golf course, Donald Trump going to play golf at the golf course is what we call an OTR. Stands for an off-the-record movement, meaning it’s not on the official schedule, meaning very few people have access to it,” Bongino explained. “What makes me even more curious about what happened yesterday is apparently the decision to golf was made at the last minute. Meaning, there were probably – when the decision was made, less than 10 people who knew about it. How’d this guy know to set up there?”
The former Secret Service agent-turned-successful podcaster also pointed out that the suspect, Routh, was not from the area. “How did he know how to set up, and where to set up, and that Trump was going to be there? Folks, the mole may not be a foreign national himself. I don’t want you to think Jason Bourne stuff. Don’t overcomplicate what doesn’t need to be over complicated,” he said.
He added: “Is there a honeypot trap going on in the Secret Service? Is there a guy or a woman in the Secret Service having a relationship with someone who is not who they say they are? The Iranians have been running these traps in Israel and elsewhere. The Iranians who want to kill President Trump. Folks, how do we know that there’s not some kind of honeypot trap and that some agent or some DHS personnel, someone who has to be notified, is not in a relationship with someone?”
