America First Legal (AFL) filed a lawsuit on Monday morning against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, seeking records of any communications related to the prosecution of former President Donald Trump. The lawsuit requests documents and correspondence between Bragg’s office and the Biden-Harris campaign, the Democratic National Convention (DNC), Color of Change, and CREW.
The lawsuit also seeks records related to fundraising efforts tied to the prosecution of the former president in the case New York v. Trump. Additionally, AFL is investigating whether there are any communications between Bragg’s office and Loren Merchan, the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, who runs Authentic Campaigns, a political consulting firm affiliated with Democrats, Fox News reported exclusively.
“It is incumbent for Alvin Bragg’s office to meet its transparency responsibilities. The public record now reveals a direct contradiction between statements from the U.S. Department of Justice and Bragg’s own office about coordination between the two,” AFL Vice President Dan Epstein told Fox News Digital. “And now it would appear that groups like Color of Change may be coordinating activities between Washington, D.C., and New York City behind the scenes.”
AFL characterizes Color of Change as a far-left, Soros-funded organization. In a statement, AFL described the prosecution of Trump as the “fruit of our labor.” They claim that Color of Change visited the White House 16 times and met with both President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. This lawsuit is part of America First Legal’s ongoing investigation into District Attorney Bragg’s office, addressing concerns about impartiality, politically motivated prosecutions, and the weaponization of the justice system. Additionally, AFL filed a lawsuit against Loren Merchan last week for refusing to disclose her financial records amid questions regarding her role at Authentic Campaigns, a political consulting firm affiliated with Democrats, Fox added.
Last week, the CEO of Authentic responded to the subpoena, asserting that the allegations against the company are “completely false and purely politically motivated.” Under New York law, judges are mandated to file annual financial disclosures, which must be made available upon request. In an unprecedented criminal trial, Trump was convicted on all 34 counts of first-degree falsifying business records following a six-week trial initiated by Bragg’s investigation. Trump had entered a not guilty plea.
Late last month, the House Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena to Loren Merchan, daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, amid allegations that her work withTrump’s political opponents might have influenced her father’s rulings. The new development comes as tensions escalate over the Manhattan District Attorney’s prosecution of Trump, a case that many argue is politically motivated.
Judge Merchan, who presided over Trump’s criminal trial, has already faced considerable scrutiny. His decision not to recuse himself from the case, despite connections some view as conflicts of interest, has drawn criticism across the political spectrum. However, it is the career of his daughter, Loren, that has sparked the most controversy. She is the president of Authentic Campaigns, a firm that has worked with some of Trump’s prominent political adversaries, including Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA). The Judiciary Committee, chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), is investigating whether her company’s involvement with these political figures constitutes a conflict of interest in the Trump trial.
In a letter, the Committee expressed its concerns that Loren Merchan and Authentic Campaigns might have financially benefited from Trump’s prosecution and conviction. They argue that this potential financial interest could have influenced Judge Merchan’s decisions, casting doubt on his impartiality.
