Former President Donald Trump’s campaign sent out a big statement moments before his ABC-moderated debate with Vice President Donald Trump ended Tuesday evening, declaring that he clearly won the contest. Campaign managers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles noted:
“President Trump delivered a masterful debate performance tonight, prosecuting Kamala Harris’ abysmal record of failure that has hurt Americans for the last 4 years. We saw President Trump lay out his bold vision of America and how he would continue to build upon the successes of his first term by supercharging the economy, securing the border, and stopping crime from ravaging communities across the country.
“Conversely, Kamala’s vision of America was a dark reminder of the oppressive, big government policies of Joe Biden that she wants to continue. High inflation, a porous border that allows criminals and terrorists to flood across, and being soft on crime — that is what Kamala represents. The choice could not be more clear — President Trump was the clear winner tonight, and he will win for America when he returns to the White House.”

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made an unexpected shift in his position on the 2024 presidential race earlier Tuesday ahead of the debate. While he previously encouraged his supporters to vote for former President Donald Trump only in key swing states, Kennedy altered his stance on Tuesday. On social media, RFK Jr. announced that supporting Trump now means endorsing his movement and the principles his campaign embodies, and as such, he’s now urging his supporters to back Trump no matter where they live. “Bottom line: No matter what state you live in, VOTE TRUMP. A Trump victory is a Kennedy victory,” Kennedy tweeted early Tuesday morning.
In a two-minute video, Kennedy explained his reasoning, citing the ongoing threats to free speech and the need for immediate action to protect constitutional rights. “A lot of people are asking me if they live in a red state or a blue state, should they still be voting for me? What about swing states? The answer is easy—no. No matter what state you live in, you should be voting for Donald Trump. And let me tell you why,” Kennedy began (video below).
He noted further that Trump’s re-election is vital to combating the “relentless attack” on free speech and the increasing control that government agencies have over public discourse. “Right now, free speech is under withering and relentless attack in America and across the globe,” Kennedy said. “But at least we still have enough of it here, and you can watch this video. We can still run an opposition political campaign. Well, in a lot of countries, you can’t do that anymore because the state now controls the media.”
Kennedy highlighted recent events in Brazil, where Twitter was banned after Elon Musk declined to follow the government’s censorship demands. He also criticized Vice President Kamala Harris, who is scheduled to debate Trump tonight. In a clip cited by Kennedy, Harris implied that Musk could lose his platform if he didn’t comply with certain regulations. Kennedy used this example to support his claim that the Democratic establishment perceives free speech as a privilege rather than a fundamental right.
Kennedy, who withdrew from the race last month and backed Trump, is endeavoring to have his name taken off ballots in multiple states. His latest appeal for unified support arises from worries that a close or contested election could further divide the nation. “As you know, this could be a very close election. A disputed election result would be a disaster for our divided nation. President Trump needs to win in a landslide, both in the electoral college and in the popular vote,” he explained.
In his message, Kennedy called for unity to “overthrow the entrenched elites” and restore the Constitution. “We have to unify. We have to overthrow the entrenched elites who are now ruining our country. So let’s get Donald Trump elected on November 5th so that we can restore our Constitution, revive the middle class, rescue our democracy, and end censorship and surveillance.”
