Sen. Eric Schmitt told Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Monday that it would be better for the country if the media would hold Vice President Kamala Harris’ feet to the fire and question her more about her and President Joe Biden’s record in office in comparison to the four years of former President Donald Trump’s term.
“Kamala Harris and her entire party care about one thing, they want to control every aspect of your life that’s not connected to abortion or maybe porn, maybe gambling. Freedom. That’s the furthest thing from their minds,” Ingraham said to open the segment. “Joining us now, Senator Eric Schmitt from Missouri. Senator, good to have you on tonight. So when you hear Kamala speak about the Democrats being the freedom party, what exactly do you think she’s really trying to get at here?”
“Well, she’s trying to recast herself and the Democrats, who again, their party platform centers around power and control. You know who’s less free, who has less economic freedom?” Schmitt responded. “Working families. They’re working harder. They’re paying more for everything, about $10,000 more a year because they’ve declared war on domestic energy production.
“Kamala Harris was one of the first signers on for the Green New Deal. She was the deciding vote, Laura, on two major pieces of legislation. She didn’t just advocate for it. She was the deciding vote as the president of the Senate, as VP on the Inflation Reduction Act and the American Recovery Act that pumped trillions of dollars, wasteful spending into our economy that has driven high inflation. So it’s harder to go on vacation. It’s harder to send your kid to school you want to send to,” he continued.
“It’s harder to get by. It’s harder to save. All these things result the Democrat policies. And you know who’s more free? Criminals. Kamala Harris was AG. She was soft on crime. Since then, she’s advocated for defunding the police, abolishing ICE. Criminals and illegal immigrants are more free, but working families are stuck with the price tag,” the Missouri Republican added.
Ingraham replied: “Well, also, I think she has a new slogan. So we’re the Freedom Party. You know, they’re trying out all their slogans. Freedom Party. And now, Senator, they don’t want to go back,” before playing a clip of Harris at a rally saying: “America has tried these failed policies before. And we are not going back. We are not going back.”
“We all here remember what those four years were like,” Ingraham said, following up. “Highest consumer confidence, high investor confidence. More people thought the country was going the right direction. No inflation. I think a lot of people want to go back to that, Senator. Border enforced. Not bad.”
“Yeah, I hope she keeps talking about that, actually. And she’s going to avoid interviews as long as she can. They’re going to try to hide her like they hid Joe Biden in 2020,” the senator said. “But I would love for this race to be about, if the media lets it, to be about the last, you know, Trump’s four years and then the Biden-Harris four years, because we had a secure border. We were energy-dominant. We weren’t, you know, the world wasn’t on fire abroad. People were making more money. Every racial-ethnic group you could think of was doing better.”
