As the Democratic National Convention begins on Monday in Chicago, the party is still ironing out details, but someone made a major mistake. A sign of the party’s underperformance was evident when the national platform was displayed, still listing President Joe Biden as the nominee despite recent developments regarding his vice president, Kamala Harris.
A screenshot of the Democratic National Convention platform was widely shared online, revealing that President Biden was listed as the nominee throughout the multi-page document. This platform typically outlines the party’s policy statements, goals, and values, and is updated during presidential election cycles. At this week’s convention, delegates are expected to vote on several motions which are wildly out of touch with a majority of Americans. They include expanding protections for transgenders and calling for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas conflict. However, the platform also includes some outdated or inaccurate endorsements, listing Biden as the leader on cancer research, infrastructure investments, and corporate tax increases, despite recent changes.
“With a second term in office, President Biden will continue to work to prevent cancer, detect it early, deliver innovation, care for families facing cancer, and, ultimately, end cancer as we know it,” the platform states. “Thanks to President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Minority Business Development Agency is now a permanent part of the Commerce Department, where it’s training underserved entrepreneurs. The SBA’s innovative Community Navigators program meanwhile helped 350,000 small businesses tap into resources that have helped them grow. In a second Biden term, we’ll make that Navigator program permanent, and include new lenders, new markets, and fairer taxes.”

President Biden is slated to address the convention on Monday, with Politico describing it as a “hero’s sendoff” following his departure from the race due to pressure from top Democrats like former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former President Barack Obama. Harris is set to officially accept the nomination in Chicago on Thursday. It remains uncertain whether the platform will be revised before her speech.
Former President Donald Trump has condemned Democrats for what he calls a “coup” by “installing” Kamala Harris as the nominee, despite 14 million Democratic primary voters backing Biden. That said, his campaign issued some rare praise for Harris after she made a startling admission during a rally ahead of the weekend. Harris was addressing a small crowd in North Carolina when she essentially admitted that the economy under the Biden-Harris administration has been less than stellar.
She said: “Everyday prices are too high… It feels so hard to be able to just get ahead… The bills add up… Food, rent, gas, back-to-school clothes, prescription medications… The cost of food. A loaf of bread costs 50% more… ground beef is up almost 50%… There’s a serious housing shortage… The price of housing has gone up… It is too difficult to build, and it is driving prices up… It is out of reach… The size of down payments have gone up as well… It is still too high… There’s not much left at the end of the month… And prices are still too high.” The Trump campaign responded: “We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.”
