Vice President Kamala Harris may have just made the first big mistake of her campaign with her choice of a running mate — Gov Tim Walz of Minnesota. While he belongs to the Democratic Party, Walz is an admitted socialist and is viewed as the most far-left pick she could have made.
A litany of responses were posted online, including examples of Walz admitting his socialist proclivities in a video. It should be noted that the small ‘r’ republicanism which is the underlying governing system of the United States is 180 degrees opposite of top-down, government-heavy socialism, which is defined by collective, rather than private, ownership of the means of production. “One criticism of socialism is that, in any society where everyone holds equal wealth, there can be no material incentive to work because one does not receive rewards for a work well done. They further argue that incentives increase productivity for all people and that the loss of those effects would lead to stagnation,” says one argument. In other words, government would ‘own’ the production, and in no country where this has been tried has it been successful.
