Vice President Kamala Harris and just about every single ‘mainstream’ media outlet have pushed back on her failed “border czar” label, but denying what she has been called for years doesn’t seem to be helping. According to a recently released survey, the majority of registered voters firmly believe that Vice President Kamala Harris is a supporter of “open borders.”
According to a Harvard-Harris poll released on Tuesday, 69% of voters believe Harris supports open borders, highlighting her vulnerability on immigration as she launches her presidential campaign. This perception spans across the political spectrum, with 56% of Democrats, 82% of Republicans, and 69% of independents agreeing that the vice president advocates for open border policies. Only 31% of voters believe Harris opposes open borders, including just 44% of Democrats. Additionally, immigration is identified as the second most important issue facing the country, surpassing concerns like the economy, healthcare, and crime.
Meanwhile, the Harvard-Harris survey revealed strong opposition to open borders, with 68% of voters rejecting such policies. Republicans and independents showed broad opposition, while Democrats were nearly split, with 51% supporting open borders and 49% opposing them. The survey also revealed strong backing for stringent border policies, with 73% of voters supporting the goal of “seal the border, and stop the migrant invasion.” The policy statement received majority support from Republicans, independents, and even Democrats.
The Daily Caller adds:
In a head-to-head matchup, 48% of voters said the would choose former President Donald Trump, compared to 45% for Harris and 7% answering that they are unsure, the poll shows. The poll’s findings follow Harris’ emergence as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee after President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 race earlier this month. Since becoming a presidential candidate, Harris’ record on immigration has come under greater scrutiny and her allies have attempted to downplay her responsibilities as “border czar” within the Biden administration.
Other surveys released this year show that American voters, including Latino voters, are increasingly leaning right on immigration and border issues. This shift towards more hawkish views aligns with the ongoing border crisis, which has impacted not only communities near the U.S.-Mexico border but also cities far from it.
According to the latest data from Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Border Patrol agents have encountered over seven million noncitizens unlawfully crossing into the U.S. since the start of the Biden administration. Major cities such as New York City, Chicago, and Denver have collectively spent more than $1 billion to provide housing and food for thousands of asylum seekers within their jurisdictions, the Caller noted further.
