Vice President Kamala Harris will have a tough, if not impossible, time separating herself from the unpopular policies of her boss, President Joe Biden. Strong majorities of Americans blame Harris, the presumptive Democratic nominee for the 2024 presidential election, for outgoing President Biden’s policies, according to polling exclusively obtained by Breitbart News.
The Senate Opportunity Fund surveyed 800 likely voters between July 22 and July 24, inquiring about Democrats’ transition from Biden to Harris. The most intriguing aspect of the findings is the minimal variance in perception among voters regarding the real policy achievements of Harris and Biden. Additionally, the survey breaks down its participants into “contested states,” with a total of 511 likely voters in this category. On a national level, the survey’s margin of error stands at 3.5 percent, while in contested states, it increases to 4.3 percent.
The slide deck containing the remarkable findings from this study was given only to Breitbart News before it was made public, and what follows is definitely going to stir up worry among Democrats who were counting on Harris being their candidate to help their party get back on the right path. It seems the opposite is happening, and Democrats are in a very difficult position following Biden’s withdrawal from the race on Sunday — and Harris isn’t the rescue they had hoped for, said the outlet.
When asked if they agreed or disagreed with this statement — “Kamala Harris’ record is the Biden Administration’s record over the last 4 years” — a staggering majority of 68 percent of respondents agreed. Only 19 percent disagreed, and 13 percent had no opinion or did not know. Similarly, when likely voters were asked if they agreed or disagreed with this statement — “In terms of policy, Kamala Harris is no different than Joe Biden” — a stunning 66 percent agreed, while only 27 percent disagreed.
Breitbart added:
On both questions, majorities across every political demographic — liberal, moderate, and conservative — agreed. Similarly, the contested states’ numbers looked very similar to the national results, which would suggest the slate of polls coming out at the national level showing former President Donald Trump — the Republican presidential nominee in 2024 — leading Harris is not a good sign for the Democrats.
“Several other takeaways in the Senate Opportunity Fund polling are terrible for Democrats. First off, the list of issues respondents said were the most important — they were asked to choose their top three issues — ranks out the top five issues voters see in the 2024 election as inflation, the economy & jobs, immigration, national security, and crime & drugs,” the outlet continued. “Abortion does not come in until the sixth highest issue, and ‘democracy’ is seventh. Guns, climate change, and social justice issues round out the issue set — but this list of issues likely voters ranked as their highest priorities plays heavily to the GOP ticket of Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH).”
Harris’s approval rating is low, with 51% seeing her negatively, 39% very negatively, and 11% somewhat negatively. Only 43% like her. When asked about Biden’s decision to leave the race, 53% thought it was political, while only 38% thought it was patriotic, Breitbart reported.
When questioned about whether Democrats ought to coronate Harris, which is the party’s current approach, or opt for an “open process” for selecting the nominee, a greater number of respondents favored the latter. Just over half, or 48 percent, believed in an open nomination process, while 41 percent were in favor of Harris being the nominee.
Among those with liberal leanings, there was a significant preference for Harris to be nominated without an open process, with 68 percent in favor and 28 percent against. Conversely, moderate voters were evenly divided, with 45 percent supporting an open process and 45 percent favoring Harris. In states where the nomination is contested, the preference for an open process increased by two percent against Harris, with 49 percent in favor and 40 percent in favor of an open process.
In addition, another slide indicates that in the last few days, Harris’s favorability rating has dropped significantly as Republicans have started to reveal her record to the American public. When the survey began on July 19, she had a 47 percent net favorability rating with a 50 percent net unfavorability rating. However, just a few days later, on July 23, her net favorability rating had dropped by 7 percent to 43 percent net favorability and 53 percent net unfavorability.
“A seven-point swing against any politician in a matter of three days is astounding. More polling from other outfits will probably bear out similar swings, though, a sign that, despite establishment media and Democrats glowing over Harris’s coronation, things do not seem to be going well for her at all,” Breitbart reported.
The top five words used by respondents to describe Harris were predominantly negative, with one exception. The most common were “unqualified” at 42 percent and “unprepared” at 38 percent. The third most used word was “qualified” at 31 percent, followed by “weak” at 31 percent and “liberal” at 30 percent, both of which are also negative, the outlet said.
