Donald Trump Jr. became visibly upset at a report from MSNBC after the correspondent appeared to “lie” about a key facet of then-President Barack Obama’s immigration policies.
At the Republican National Convention, Trump Jr. strongly dismissed MSNBC reporter Jacob Soboroff, instructing him to exit the event after he questioned him about his father’s policies and leadership. The confrontation occurred shortly after an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, who has since garnered enough delegate support to secure the GOP presidential nomination again.
“Your father as president, I think you would even say was a divisive figure. What’s it going to look like in the second term?” Soboroff asked, putting the microphone in his face. “I don’t think he was a divisive figure at all,” Trump Jr. instantly responded.
“I think the media created divisiveness around him. They lied about Russia-Russia collusion. They said he was a traitor. They went after him in every which way is possible.” As Soboroff continued to question the potential continuation of policies such as family separation, Trump Jr. rejected the framing of the questions as biased and accused MSNBC of perpetuating falsehoods, bringing up the fact that Obama did the same thing, and in “record numbers,” according to the National Immigration Law Center. Obama was also nicknamed “Deporter-In-Chief.”
“It’s MSDNC, so I expect nothing less from you clowns,” after Soboroff claimed that Obama did not separate families. “Even today, even 48 hours later, you couldn’t wait. You couldn’t wait with your lies and with your nonsense. So just get out of here,” he continued, waving the reporter off dismissively.

Trump Jr. is slated to speak at the RNC on Wednesday, while his father will address the convention on its last day, Thursday. Former President Trump announced on Truth Social over the weekend that he had thought about postponing his trip to the RNC, but said he “decided that I cannot allow a ‘shooter,’ or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else.”
In an announcement made through Trump’s Truth Social account, it was revealed that Ohio Senator J.D. Vance will be Trump’s running mate for the 2024 election. Vance, a renowned author and former Marine, is expected to play a pivotal role in Trump’s efforts to regain support from working-class voters across America. “After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump wrote.
Trump commended his vice presidential choice, JD Vance, for his diverse accomplishments, including his Marine Corps service, academic success at The Ohio State University and Yale Law School, and his notable career in technology and finance. Trump highlighted Vance’s “Hillbilly Elegy,” a bestselling memoir that delves into the life of the American working class in the Rust Belt, which has also been adapted into a major film, underscoring its wide resonance and appeal.
“J.D. has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the Campaign, will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond,” Trump continued.
“As Vice President, J.D. will continue to fight for our Constitution, stand with our Troops, and will do everything he can to help me MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Congratulations to Senator J.D. Vance, his wife, Usha, who also graduated from Yale Law School, and their three beautiful children. MAGA2024!” Trump concluded.
