President Joe Biden got more bad news on Monday as he continues to shuffle his way around certain battleground states in an effort to reverse his putrid approval rating.

In a head-to-head matchup with President Biden, former President Donald Trump’s support has held firm at 49 percent, according to a newly released CNN survey. Biden’s support dropped from 45 percent to 43 percent when compared with his numbers at the start of the year.

According to the poll, when asked about Trump’s job performance, 55 percent of respondents now consider his first term as successful while 44 percent view it as a failure. In January 2021, shortly after Trump left office, 55 percent of respondents classified his term as a failure. Only 39% of registered voters believe President Biden’s presidency has been successful, while a significant 61% think it has been a failure. Among independents, 51% say Trump’s presidency was successful, while only 37% see Biden’s as a success.

The president’s performance in handling the economy and inflation has received largely negative feedback. Even on issues where he is most approved, such as health care policy and student loan forgiveness, his ratings are still below average, at 45% and 44% respectively, the survey found.

“And in the coming rematch, opinions about the first term of each man vying for a second four years in the White House now appear to work in Trump’s favor, with most Americans saying that, looking back, Trump’s term as president was a success, while a broad majority says Biden’s has so far been a failure,” the polling firm for CNN, SSRS, said in an analysis of its survey data.

“Republicans now are more unified around the idea that Trump’s presidency was a success than Democrats are that Biden’s has been one. Overall, 92% of Republicans call Trump’s time in office a success, while just 73% of Democrats say Biden’s has been a success so far. Among independents, 51% say Trump’s presidency was successful, while only 37% see Biden’s as a success,” the analysis continued.
