Hollywood star James Woods took Rev. Al Sharpton to task on Thursday after the MSNBC contributor and host made a confusing statement during a show segment about the founding fathers that went viral online.

Sharpton and a panel on the network were discussing new charges filed against former President Donald Trump by special counsel Jack Smith earlier in the day in relation to the Jan. 6., 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol Building.

The ‘good reverend’ appeared to be trying to score a cheap point with an off-handed claim that Trump was attempting to ‘overthrow’ the established government.

“One day, our children’s children will read American history, and can you imagine our reading that James Madison or Thomas Jefferson tried to overthrow the government so they could stay in power?” Sharpton said.

“That’s what we’re looking at. We’re looking at American history, and how it will play out is going to be very important,” he added.

“The sad part about this to me is that this is not a man that is facing all this because he believed in a political position or political policy or cause. I’ve seen people go down the wrong side for a cause. This is all about him,” Sharpton continued.

Of course, our founding fathers did overthrow the British government, which is how America came into being in the first place.

Enter James Woods.

“Card-carrying ignoramus asks us to imagine if Thomas Jefferson or James Madison tried to overthrow the government. Then he lectures us on understanding history,” Woods began.

“This chucklehead might try reading history first. It was laughable when he was a fat slob in a velour tracksuit. Now that he’s an anorexic scarecrow, it’s just mildly pathetic,” he added.

It was recently revealed that Woods served as an executive producer on the highly acclaimed movie “Oppenheimer,” which is already being touted as a strong contender for the Best Picture Oscar.

Woods played a pivotal role in bringing the movie to fruition (see below), and given that Hollywood attempted to cancel him after he openly embraced solid common-sense conservative values, this achievement may very well stand as his most significant triumph within the industry.

Woods’ devoted fans, who stood by him unwaveringly through every challenge, have been expressing their heartfelt congratulations to the Hollywood icon for standing strong against the pressure and prevailing over Hollywood in its own arena. In response, he sincerely expressed his appreciation with a tribute in kind to his fans.

“So many of you have been so supportive of my career, and I am truly humbled and honored. #Oppenheimer has been a high water mark, of course, thanks to the brilliant efforts of the great Christopher Nolan and everyone involved,” the actor wrote on Twitter last week.

“Someone sent this meme that says it all,” he added.
