On Thursday, Congressman Byron Donalds from Florida appeared on CNN to argue in favor of President Donald Trump as the Republican Party’s nominee for the 2024 presidential election.
“Our nominee’s gotta hit the ground running on day one and be able to say to the world that American leadership is back. We’re not going to have our country and sovereignties taken advantage of. We actually want to have global security and global trade and frankly global harmony,” said Donalds.
“I remember Hillary Clinton said in a debate in 2016 that if Donald Trump became President of the United States we would be on the precipice of World War III. Well that never happened. As a matter of fact the world got a lot safer,” he noted further.

Trump has received significant endorsements in the past few days, including support from a majority of the Florida congressional delegation, which is the home state of his potential opponent, Gov. Ron DeSantis. Donalds, along with other representatives such as Gus Bilirakis, Carlos Gimenez, Matt Gaetz, Anna Paulina Luna, Cory Mills, and Greg Steube, have endorsed Trump’s candidacy for the 2024 presidential election.
Asked on Fox Business if he had spoken with DeSantis recently, Donalds said, “No, we haven’t talked recently. It’s not deliberate, everybody’s busy, schedules are in conflict. But at the end of the day, I made a decision that I think is in the best interest of the country, and I wish the governor well.”
A recent survey conducted by the Wall Street Journal revealed that among likely GOP voters, Trump holds a lead over DeSantis by 13 points, with Trump receiving 51% of support compared to DeSantis’ 38%. This lead has grown in recent days as more lawmakers have expressed their endorsement of Trump’s return to the White House.
Although the list of Republican candidates is still in its early stages of developing, many experts predict that the competition for the party’s presidential nomination will ultimately boil down to a battle between Trump and a leading alternative, such as DeSantis, who gained national attention for his defiance of Covid-19 restrictions during the pandemic.
