Fox News reports that is reporting Riley Gaines, a former All-American swimmer from the University of Kentucky, spoke with the news network just after the White House claimed Biden opposes the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act.
He said he would veto the plan the provides protections for women and girls in athletics against men who simply say they are women and want to use their higher levels of physical ability to be champions.
Gaines charged Biden gave evidence he was putting a “radical minority” ahead of American women.
“The president has declared that science, truth, and common sense no longer matter. In opposing this bill, President Biden is catering to a radical minority at the expense of women, who are 51% of the population,” Gaines charged.
“Equal opportunity, privacy, and safety in our sports shouldn’t be controversial. The women who once advocated for Title IX should be outraged as this goes against everything they fought for. Female athletes of all ages, levels, and sports deserve better,” she said.
The report also noted that former Olympic gold medal swimmer Donna de Varona has called for a “reasonable way” to let all people to compete in sports while protecting fairness and safety for women.
The proposal, H.R. 734, is expected to be adopted by the House shortly.
Biden, however, claimed it would “deny access to sports for many families by establishing an absolute ban on transgender students.”
The substance of the bill isn’t complicated. It simply states an educational institution getting federal Title IX funds could not let “a person whose sex is male to participate in an athletic program or activity that is designed for women or girls.”
