A former Democratic governor is spitting fire at Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and other politically “weaponized” prosecutors who he says are using their offices to enact political agendas.
Ahead of former President Donald Trump’s arraignment, former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) criticized the district attorneys and cautioned on “America’s Newsroom” that prosecutors like Bragg are attempting to “take away” the freedoms of Americans.
Blagojevich, whose prison sentence for corruption was commuted by then-President Trump in 2020, has maintained his innocence.
I think this is the apocalypse of our democracy. They’re doing to a Republican president the major league level what they did to me, a Democrat governor, at the Triple-A level. I went to prison for things that are not crimes,” he said.
“They’re charging President Trump with things that are not crimes. One positive thing I suppose you could say about the D.A. over there, Bragg, is that he keeps his campaign promises. Here’s a guy who ran on a campaign promise to charge President Trump,” Blagojavich added.
“The other thing you can say about him is he’s violating his oath of office and destroying the Constitution and the rule of law. And if anybody who ought to be going to prison or charged with crimes for this episode ought to be that DA, these weaponized, uncontrolled, corrupt prosecutors are going to destroy our democracy, steal our freedoms, and take from us, we the people, our right to choose our own leaders and elections,” he said.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), and other Republicans were equally angry after Bragg charged Trump with 34 felonies related to falsifying business records, to which he pleaded innocent.
“The shameful arrest of President Trump is an unprecedented and chilling chapter in the Left’s weaponization of the justice system against their leading political opponent,” she said.
“This dangerous and illegal overreach by a radical DA has completely backfired for the corrupt Far Left Democrats who would rather desperately tear apart the fabric of our country than face President Trump at the ballot box,” Stefanik added.
“The American people are smart, and they know this is politically charged and that President Trump will defeat these charges in court and turn the tables on the Far Left Democrats by exposing their corruption and abuse of power,” she noted further.
“President Trump continues to skyrocket in the polls, and just like with the Russia hoax and both sham impeachments, President Trump will defeat this latest witch-hunt, defeat Joe Biden, and will be sworn in as President of the United States of America in January 2025.”
