Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has a warning for Republicans as the party already begins to set its sights on the 2024 elections.
And that is, quite simply, stop underestimating President Joe Biden.
In a column, Gingrich noted that Biden and Democrats effectively implemented many of their policies while Republicans focused mostly on his perceived gaffes and mental deficiencies.
“Conservatives’ hostility to the Biden administration on our terms tends to blind us to just how effective Biden has been on his terms,” wrote Gingrich.
“He has only built upon and fortified the left-wing Big Government Socialist woke culture system. We dislike Biden so much, we pettily focus on his speaking difficulties, sometimes strange behavior, clear lapses of memory, and other personal flaws. Our aversion to him and his policies makes us underestimate him and the Democrats,” Gingrich advised.
He noted further that while Biden “stayed in the basement” during the 2020 campaign, he nevertheless managed a victory.
Meanwhile, Democrats had an “amazingly narrow four-vote majority in the U.S. House and a 50–50 tie in the Senate,” and yet Biden and his party managed to push through trillions in new spending, while the latest bill on “sexual rights overriding all other rights” passed with Republican support.
In spite of Biden’s mishandling of the economy, as well as a significant increase in crimes and the ongoing border crisis, his team executed its strategy of “polarizing Americans against Donald Trump supporters” to come out with one of the “best first-term off-year elections in history,” Gingrich noted further.
He also wrote that The Biden administration and Democrats turned Jan. 6 into a crisis that “eclipsed” the social chaos of leftist mobs while exaggerating abortion issues, he said—“And it all worked” as there was no red wave, as many anticipated.
Gingrich then repeated how Republicans need to rework their 2024 strategy and “almost inevitable second-time Democrat Presidential Nominee Biden.”
“This is a much bigger challenge than I would have guessed before the election,” he admitted.
