Rep. Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican set to take over control of the House Judiciary Committee after his party regained control of the chamber during the midterms, has announced what will be the first oversight investigation.
Jordan made the announcement Wednesday with House colleague Rep. James Comer of Kentucky in the nation’s capital.
During the announcement, Comer said several whistleblowers have alleged that the Biden family “flourished and became millionaires by simply offering access to the family.”
“This is an investigation of Joe Biden,” Comer said before going on to allege that first son Hunter Biden and Joe Biden participated in “waste, fraud, and abuse” in their business dealings.
Comer also said Republicans have evidence that the Biden family was involved in attempting to give China access to U.S. energy producers and the American energy market.

Jordan added: “First, it wasn’t Hunter’s laptop. Then they admitted it was his laptop, but argued it was Russian ‘disinformation.
“Then they admitted it wasn’t disinfo, but assured us Joe Biden wasn’t involved. Now, it looks like Joe was involved, but they’re telling us he did nothing wrong,” Jordan continued.
Former Trump White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany observed on Twitter: “Excellent press conference by @Jim_Jordan & @JamesComer about oversight plans for the new Republican Congress. They are prepared to hold the Biden administration accountable! They have 14 FBI whistleblowers… and it’s not even day one yet!”

Observers were quick to point out, however, that even though Republicans control the House, it will be difficult to get the Biden Justice Department or the White House to cooperate with any investigation, or to go after any alleged criminality.
But, observers added that Democrats have more Senate seats to defend in 2024, and failure to cooperate with House investigations will likely become campaign issues for Republicans.
