Former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki relayed some bad news to her Democratic Party on Thursday.
The new MSNBC analyst said that the party’s political fortunes have winnowed away over the summer as inflation, cultural issues, and a chaotic southwestern border eroded Democratic support. And now, the party is facing major electoral losses during next month’s midterms.
She also responded to a hot mic catching a conversation between Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and President Joe Biden as they discussed Democratic prospects next month.
Schumer, at one point, said, “we’re in danger.”

“The hot mic will get you every time, Chuck Schumer. I’ve been there. What we heard there and what you saw on the screen is similar to a lot the conversations Democrats are having behind the scenes and people I talked to as well,” Psaki noted.
“People are fearful about where the momentum is going in some of these cases. There are encouraging signs, but numbers in the house races are not where they should be,” she added.
“People are trying to get a lot of people I talked to are worried about voters being encouraged and excited about people at the top of the ticket, and maybe not excited enough to vote for the congressional candidates, and that’s a real concern,” the former Biden official said.
“So I think it’s a reflection of the Democrats are worried about where this is going. We only have 11 days to go here,” said Psaki.
“That’s why I think you see Barack Obama, Joe Biden, all of these people out on the trail because they’re trying to light a fire with Democrats right now.”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer was overheard Thursday telling President Biden that the potentially pivotal race for U.S. Senate in Georgia appears to be “going downhill” for Democrats.
“The state where we’re going downhill is Georgia,” Schumer said in a candid conversation on a New York airfield tarmac with the president, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., that was filmed by the Washington Post.
“It’s hard to believe that they will go for Herschel Walker.”
