A Seattle City Councilwoman and self-avowed socialist who has pushed to “defund” the police department is now lashing out at cops, accusing them of not coming to her assistance.
Councilwoman Kshama Sawant has sent a letter to the Seattle P.D. complaining that the department is not doing enough to catch someone who has throw feces into her yard a half-dozen times, KCPQ-TV reported.
“There is obviously a glaring inconsistency between this approach and the way in which former Mayor Durkan, after a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest was held a short distance from her mansion, was provided with a 24-hour stakeout for a full year,” Sawant noted in the letter, going on to suggest that she deserves police protection as a result of the incidents.
“As a socialist City Councilmember who has participated in Black Lives Matter protests, I am being told that my case of six threatening incidents involving human excrement doesn’t merit even a serious investigation, let alone protection,” she added.

Her complaint comes as staffing at the Seattle Police Department, which has had recruiting difficulties for years, is at a 30-year low, with officers streaming out of the department in recent years as the ‘defund’ movement grew in popularity in the far-left city. Nevertheless, the department sought the public’s help this week in attempting to catch the suspect after releasing photos.
“Friends of the victim were watching the home when the suspect threw a plastic bag, containing several individual bags of suspected human feces, into the yard,” the police said without identifying the councilwoman as the victim. “The friends confronted the suspect and snapped multiple photos as he ran away. Witnesses described the suspect…as an Asian man, approximately 5-foot 4-inches tall.”
According to KIRO-TV, Sawant led the charge in Seattle to defund the police department since 2020, proposing to cut the department’s budget by $85 million that year. She was also among hundreds of protesters who stormed city hall and occupied the building for about an hour to demand that then-Democratic Mayor Jenny Durkan resign and the SPD be defunded.
The department itself, however, pushed back on her claims.
“The department takes incidents involving public officials seriously, and investigators have canvassed for evidence, gathered information from witnesses and reviewed everything collected thus far,” the department said in a statement.
“At this time, the department has not found any evidence this case would meet the city or state standards for hate crime laws, but SPD will follow available leads should new information arise. The department encourages anyone with additional information about this case to contact police,” the statement added.
