If there’s one thing we learned, it’s that Democrats don’t care about Americans because they’re too busy being focused on punishing President Donald Trump and everyone who’s associated with him. That’s a cut and dry case of Trump Derangement Syndrome and should probably be put in the DSM book of mental illnesses with photos of the most prominent weirdos, like Jamie Raskin.
Democrats took the House and Senate on November 4, and by the very next day Rep. Jamie Raskin was already telling the country exactly what comes next. Appearing on MSNBC with Nicolle Wallace, the incoming House Judiciary chair had a message for every company that did business with the Trump administration: watch out.
“We will not hesitate to go after the private corporations that are collaborating in all of the lawlessness with Donald Trump,” Raskin said. We’ve done it before, and we will absolutely do it again.” Nothing says ‘party of the working class‘ quite like promising to kneecap private businesses on day one.
Raskin specifically called out law firms he said had “capitulated” or “surrendered” to the White House, naming Paul Weiss as one that made “outrageous concessions.” He admitted letters his office already sent those firms produced little. Subpoena power, he said, would change that. He had already warned oil companies in late October that any role in Trump’s Russian diesel deal would be treated as a federal crime, adding a cheerful Jamie Raskin corporate threats: “Proceed at your own risk, whether in this Administration, or the next.”
Raskin is not running this revenge tour alone. Incoming Oversight Chair Robert Garcia kept his post-election message tight: two words, “Lawyer up.” His target list includes the “Trump Crime Family,” companies that worked with the administration, ICE and DHS operations, and Epstein-related files. Sen. Ron Wyden posted a single word of his own, “Subpoenas,” which is either a promise or a cry for help, hard to tell. Sen. Ed Markey said they would need “new forests” to print all the subpoenas they were planning. The Oversight Democrats’ official account added “crony corporations ripping off the American people” and “corrupt Trump admin officials profiting off the presidency” to the pile.
Sen. Elissa Slotkin went even further. She wants “signature cases” not just against Trump but against “the people who enabled him.” Speaking at a University of Chicago event, she framed it as a “deterrence message” aimed at young graduates, warning that taking a job in a Republican administration might mean buying yourself “a ton of problems.” She compared the whole approach to post-authoritarian cleanups in Europe. Post-authoritarian. These people lost their minds somewhere around 2016 and never found them.
Companies are already spooked. Reports say Apple, Microsoft, Palantir, and various defense firms have been quietly adding Democratic lobbyists and opening back channels. Law firms that cut deals with the White House, including Kirkland and Ellis and Skadden, which pledged hundreds of millions in free legal work, are already on Democratic lists.
So voters went to the polls worried about affordability, gas prices, and the Iran war. The morning after, the people set to run the committees were talking about subpoena blitzes, the “Trump Crime Family,” and making examples of anyone who ever shook hands with the administration. Wild coincidence that none of that was on the campaign trail.
The gavels change hands in January, and Raskin and his crew have made clear the hearings start immediately. The only question is whether the Democrats who promised to fix your grocery bill will find any time between investigations to actually legislate. Don’t hold your breath.
