Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) was caught on undercover video dismissing serious concerns about Michigan Senate candidate Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed’s alleged ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and his Egyptian citizenship. The footage, obtained by Townhall, shows Tlaib in full Squad mode, complete with f-bombs and a total lack of interest in the facts.

When an undercover operative raised the Brotherhood issue, Tlaib waved it off entirely. “Obviously he’s not a terrorist. They’re, you know, trying to gaslight people to believe that,” she said, adding that El-Sayed’s sister works at a university, so that settles it. “If that was true, like, I don’t think she’d be working in a school,” Tlaib explained. Critics might note that academia is actually a perfectly comfortable landing spot for all kinds of radical ideas, but sure, Rashida, great point.

Tlaib also had strong feelings about El-Sayed’s Egyptian passport, arguing that nobody raises an eyebrow over European dual citizenship. “If they’re from freaking Europe and stuff and they got, like, French passport, nobody gives a s***. But because he’s got an Egyptian one, everybody gives a s***,” she said. For context, France is not currently home to a Brotherhood-linked political movement, but why let that get in the way of a rant.

Then came the moment that might be the most perfectly Squad answer ever recorded on camera. When the operative informed Tlaib that El-Sayed had listed Egyptian citizenship on his own curriculum vitae, she fired back, “I don’t know what the f*** a CV is.” A sitting member of Congress. Legislating. On your behalf. Tlaib hidden camera footage had already set a low bar, but somehow she found a way to dig deeper.

She also compared the citizenship controversy to past questions about Barack Obama’s religion, saying, “It’s like when I went to doors and people actually said, ‘Is Obama Muslim?’ I said, ‘So what if he is?'” Classic deflection from the woman who gave us “impeach the MF” as a rallying cry. Real statesmanship.

The facts on El-Sayed are not exactly ambiguous. At a 2016 medical conference he stated plainly, “I carry dual citizenship, and I grew up spending most of my summers in another country.” His campaign has since called those remarks an “error.” A very specific, detailed, on-camera error. His half-sister has posted that their family “has long been” involved with the Muslim Brotherhood and that their mother was active in the group in college in Egypt in the 1970s, with some relatives reportedly jailed for membership. Critics have also pointed to his father-in-law’s longtime board role with the Islamic Society of North America, described as a Muslim Brotherhood-linked group. El-Sayed has repeatedly denied any personal or family ties to the organization.

President Trump held a rally in Michigan where he vowed to fight El-Sayed, calling him “a Jihadist Member of the Muslim Brotherhood” and saying, “Anyone with that record of support for jihadists would be screened and unable to get a seat on an airplane. They certainly should not give him a seat in the United States Senate.” Michigan voters will get to sort all this out at the ballot box. In the meantime, Rashida Tlaib will keep not knowing what a CV is, and Congress will keep being exactly what you think it is.
