Hillary Clinton Lets The Cat Out of the Bag About Democrat Plans If They Win Back Power

Text size

Two-time presidential loser Hillary Clinton appeared on the latest episode of High Stakes, her podcast with left-wing ‘journalist’/activist Kara Swisher, and gave everyone a glimpse of what a Democrat trifecta – winning the House, the Senate, and the presidency – would look like.

Making life more affordable for Americans? No. Bringing down our national debt so we don’t pass it on to our grandkids? Nah. Policies that would lead to lower interest rates so more Americans can finally buy a home? Uh-uh. No, Democrats will focus on raw power. Like expanding the Supreme Court from nine justices to thirteen.

Here’s Clinton’s exact framing: we should seriously look at expanding the court while the Democrats are in power. “You know, it used to be that you’d have one justice for each circuit. We now have 13 circuits. We should have 13 justices. So I would be in, you know, favor of looking at that and see if we could, you know, make it work.”

Just not right now, though, while Republicans are in power. The reform is apparently so principled, so grounded in sound judicial administration, that it can only be undertaken by one specific political party — Democrats — during a window when that party controls everything.

If the circuit-matching rationale were real, it would be equally valid in January 2029 under a Republican trifecta. She did not say that. She said while Democrats are in power, because the circuit math is the costume and the 6-3 majority is the body underneath it.

The circuit argument isn’t even good costume. Congress has set the number of justices at six, five, seven, nine, ten, and back to nine, where it has remained since 1869. It has never been pegged to the circuit count as a governing principle, and if it were, nobody in Washington would be proposing a thirteenth circuit without first checking who’d be appointing the justice.

Now the part that should actually alarm people. Swisher floated term limits for justices, and Clinton shot it down — term limits are artificial, she said, and she disagrees.

Of course she does. Term limits would require a constitutional amendment: two-thirds of both chambers, three-quarters of the states. Court expansion requires none of that. The number of justices sits in federal statute. A Democratic House, a Democratic Senate willing to gut the filibuster, and a Democratic president could enact four new seats on a party-line vote and fill them by spring.

She rejected the hard, legitimate path and embraced the one that needs a simple House majority, fifty-one senators and a presidential pen. That’s not a woman thinking about judicial structure. That’s a woman reading a calendar.

And note what’s driving the urgency. Kamala Harris said the same thing on a podcast last week — expand the Court, abolish the Electoral College, add two states. Jamie Raskin says a third impeachment isn’t taboo. Sixteen House Democrats want to investigate Elon Musk. The whole party has quietly agreed that the problem isn’t their platform, it’s the institutions that keep producing unfavorable results.

The Clinton timing is its own small comedy. Her husband spent last week in Florida scolding Republicans about demonizing opponents and campaigning on the cheap. Hillary, meanwhile, was working out the arithmetic on four new justices and laying out how to get them: A Democrat supermajority in Washington.

Meanwhile, Trump and Republicans made tax cuts permanent, are working to build new factories and long-term jobs, expanding oil and gas exploration, and ending our country’s reliance on potential enemies. Democrats opposed all of that and are instead focused on expanding their own power so they can force all Americans to live under their vision of how life should be.

If that doesn’t motivate you into voting for a red wave, nothing will.
