Kamala Harris is back, and she’s making another bonehead statement about the Supreme Court that has everyone laughing. She wants to blow up the Supreme Court. Not literally, but the next best thing in Democrat fantasy land is adding more justices when the ones we have keep ruling against the Democrat ways of life.

Speaking at the National Urban League Conference in Nashville on Friday, July 31, Harris called for expanding the Supreme Court from nine justices to 13, arguing the number should match the 13 circuit courts in the federal judiciary.

Because nothing says “trust the institutions” like jamming four new justices onto the bench because your side keeps losing. The current nine-member court has six justices appointed by Republican presidents, including three appointed by President Donald Trump, and apparently that’s just too much winning for Democrats to tolerate.

Harris also used the Nashville speech to push for revisiting the Electoral College and granting statehood to Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. That’s a full progressive wish list delivered in one afternoon, which is impressive even by Democratic standards. Kamala Harris court expansion remarks confirm this marks a harder line than she took during her 2020 presidential campaign, when she was open to the court-packing discussion but far less aggressive about it.

As vice president, Harris backed Supreme Court reforms pushed by President Joe Biden, like term limits for justices, though those proposals never included adding new seats to the bench. Now she’s apparently warmed up to the full court-stuffing idea, because midterms are coming and Democrats need something to run on besides the last four years.

Harris isn’t the only 2028 hopeful jumping on this bandwagon. Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also support court expansion. Even California Governor Gavin Newsom, who had been skeptical, is reportedly warming to the idea. So the whole 2028 Democrat primary might just be a competition over who can promise the most judges.

Harris herself hasn’t decided whether she’s running for president again in 2028, saying she’s focused on the 2026 midterms for now. Which makes sense. You’d want to test the court-packing message with voters before staking a whole presidential campaign on it, especially after the last one went so well.

The debate over judicial reform will keep churning as Democrats look for anything to shift the balance of power in a court they can’t seem to win on the merits. Never trust a woman who spends her life delivering word salads after a career wearing kneepads.
