An Early Halloween: Six Words From Ilhan Omar’s Past Come Back to Haunt Her Her After Raid

Text size

Democrats like to pretend that they are the most righteous defenders of freedom in the country — a position that requires them to be some of the biggest hypocrites on the planet. Having an extremely short memory and no shame helps, too.

Enter Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar. She faced renewed scrutiny Tuesday after federal agents searched her Washington, D.C., residence as part of a criminal investigation involving her immigration records, prompting widespread political reactions and renewed attention to her previous statements about accountability under the law.

The search took place early Monday morning when agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the investigative division of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, executed a court-authorized warrant at the Minnesota Democrat’s home.

Fox News Digital first reported the operation, citing sources familiar with the investigation. According to those sources, investigators are examining immigration documents completed by Omar’s late father when she was a child. The congresswoman was born in Somalia and came to the United States as a refugee before becoming a naturalized American citizen.

The Justice Department confirmed that federal agents had executed a search warrant but declined to disclose specific allegations. “Today in the Washington, D.C. area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice,” a department spokesperson said. The agency subsequently confirmed that the investigation was criminal in nature.

The operation quickly generated reactions across social media, where critics highlighted a statement Omar made following President Donald Trump’s indictment in a New York criminal case, as well as other indictments by the Biden Justice Department by a ‘special counsel’ who shredded the Constitution in the process.

At the time, Omar declared that “no one is above the law,” a phrase frequently used by Democrats defending criminal investigations involving Trump. Following Monday’s search, the Minnesota Republican Party resurfaced the statement in a social media post.

“Rather than issue our own statement, we’ll defer to Rep. Omar,” the organization wrote, referencing her earlier remarks. The response reflected broader criticism from Republicans who argued that Omar should be subject to the same legal standards she previously demanded for Trump.

Omar strongly condemned the search, because of course she would, accusing the Trump administration of using federal law enforcement to target political opponents (actually Biden did that). “I’m ok,” she wrote on X shortly after news of the operation became public. “Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement.”

She also accused Trump of repeatedly making false allegations against her throughout his political career. “For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns,” Omar wrote. “This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.”

The investigation follows months of public questions from administration officials concerning Omar’s immigration history.

In September, White House border czar Tom Homan acknowledged that federal authorities were examining allegations involving the congresswoman.

Homan said information concerning Omar’s immigration background warranted further examination but declined to disclose details of the investigation.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin also raised questions about the circumstances surrounding her family’s entry into the United States. Omar has repeatedly denied allegations that she improperly obtained citizenship or committed immigration fraud.
